I'm helping an inmate write an article about HCV for their newsletter.
We're trying to come up with the names of famous people who had/have HCV to
demonstrate that it's no respector of persons or social position. So far,
we've got Pamela Anderson, Mickey Mantle, Evel Knievel, David Crosby, Papa
John Phillips, and Alan Ginsberg (like they'll know who he is). I remember
reading about a Prime minister of Canada who underwent treatment but can't
remember his name. Does anyone have a famous name to add to the list? The
more varied, the better.

My goodness! How could I have left out your name?! :-)

The great Irish bluesman/rocker Rory Gallagher. Very famous in Europe but
never cracked the U.S. market.

Oh yeah, and he was hell on wheels on riba! I think his handlers finally
banned him from public speaking after a couple of (hilarious if you know
riba) outbursts.

I don't doubt this, but how did you find it out?

An old friend, well connected in Canadian politics, shared some stories with
me. On one occasion, the audience thought he might be drunk because of his
ranting and stumbling around on stage (tx side-effects), but when a couple
of guys escorted him off stage, without any explanation, they removed all
doubt. Another time he almost caused an international incident with a racial
slur. Lastman's a bit of a loose canon even without the riba, but you have
to admire his spirit.

Thanks for the input. I gave it all to ger and we'll see what kind of
article she writes.
The title will be "Am I At Risk?" and the opening line will be something
like, "What do a baseball legend, a porn star, a teacher, a rock musician, a
convict, and a police chief all have in common?"
There is a lot of ignorance and fear among the inmates regarding HCV. She's
hoping she can overcome some of that.

Thip, is there any way that I could get a copy of the article, or better yet
the entire newsletter? I'd be interested (from a professional and a personal
point of view) in seeing and inmates' newsletter; I collect publications
(how weird is that?).
On a related note, have you ever thought of writing something for their
newsletter? I'll bet they'd all appreciate it.
Here's how I'd write the opening...
"The Dragon Doesn't Play Favorites"
What does porn star Linda Lovelace have in common with beach babe Pamela
Anderson? What does ZZ Top's Dusty Hill have in common with country crooner
Freddy Fender? What does a mayor have in common with a car thief and what
does a convict have in common with a guard at (this institution)?
That would be a fun article to write! Really, if you're into writing, even
the most unpleasant situations can be an outlet for creativity, and that's
play for the mind.
Yeah, just met a new neighbour today, he moved in down the end of the road.
He's got the wickededest pot..... <g>
You take care... play a bit.

I don't think I'd be allowed to contribute to an inmate newsletter. That
crosses the invisible line into having dealings with them. This particular
newsletter is being put out by the faith and character based dorm, and the
inmate who's writing the article is one of the first ones I ever counseled
when she came to me and told me she had HCV (she's doing tx now). It WOULD
be fun to write though!
I'll see about getting my hands on a copy of the newsletter. If I do, I'll
let you know.
