Hey,

Aside from my VL which I reported earlier I also have some out of range
results that I'd like to share. Normal range in parens:

WBC        2.2    (4.0 - 10.5)
RBC        3.53    (4.10 - 5.60)
Hemoglobin    10.6    (12.5 - 17.0)
Hematocrit    31.0    (36.0 - 50.0)
RDW        16.8    (11.7 - 15.0)
Lymphs        48    (14 - 46)
Neutrophils     .9    (1.8 - 7.8)

Can anyone comment upon these?

Doc didn't advise me to do anything differently but I'll call this week
to discuss anyway.

Thanks.

BTW: Happy New Year!

Hi Stretch,

I don't remember enough of Treatment Pharmacology 101 to give you any good
info on your results, but I'm sure you'll get lots of good info from the
others.

Happy New Year to you too, dragonslayer!

You may have mentioned it elsewhere, but what week are you in, and what's your
genotype?

The whites, reds and hemoglobin/hematocrit are ok, low but not alarming. I'd
only be concerned about these if you are early in therapy.

The high RDW is your body trying to make up for low Red Blood Cell counts by
making *larger* red cells, so no real worries here. It's expected, I had the
same thing happen, and if anything, lower RDW on top of depressed RBCs would
be the thing to worry about.

The Neutrophil count appears to be Absolute Neutrophils, and yours are pretty
darned low. Your doc should be keeping a really close eye on this particular
metric as it's not far off from when dose reduction is recommended.

Otoh, the Lymphs score appears to be %Lymphocytes, not Absolute Lymphocyte
count. %Lymphs shows what percentage of total WBCs are due to Lymphocytes, not
an actual count per volume. And because total WBC is mostly Neuts and Lymphs
in a roughly 2:1 ratio, respectively, when your Neutrophils go to hell the
Lymphs make up a larger proportion of the total WBC count.

In your case, given the drop in Neuts, 48% Lymphs is easy to fathom, so I
wouldn't be concerned about the Lymphs. The worries - if there are any - are
in the Neuts.

Has your doc suggested using growth factors (eg: Neupogen) to boost your
Neutrophils?  If not, I think it'd be prudent for you to bring the topic up
for discussion...

Cheers - and hang in there!

Yep, Grey's response was right on target.  It IS time you discuss
Neupogen with your doc in lieu of any thoughts of dose reduction.

Hi Stretch,
My Doc put me on Neupogen at week 28 when my WBC's dropped to 2.4 and my
neutrophils were at 0.8.  It didn't make me feel fabulous, but helped a
bit.

My RBC at that time was a normal 4.3 and a few weeks ago at roughly shot
#42 my RBC had dropped to 3.8.  No Procrit (yet).  Hemoglobin a tad low at
11.9.

My tx will extend 6 extra weeks because I took a break at week 12, so 9
shots to go. Yay.

Just my numbers for comparison.

about where I was at, enough to make me huff and puff, but I could walk
around the block ok. I couldn't do anything strenuous though.

I was down to .7 around week 20 and the doc ordered a follow up CBC a week
later, said if the Neutrophils dropped below .7 to cut my Pegasys 1/2, but
the came up a point and later to about 1.1 and leveled out for  the rest of
the treatment.
