A little over a week ago I was advised to discontinue treatment because
my damn virus was still replicating after 29 weeks of 15 mcg  of
Infergen and 1200 mg.

I have decent insurance, 10 six packs of Infergen, and 3 jars of Riba
84s.

If anyone is having financial difficulty paying for this type of tx
please email me directly by adding dog to my username, or using your
reader features.

Love Life, Peace and happy holidays to all.

Sorry to hear this, Steve. Merry f.cking Christmas, eh?
It's hard to dig anything positive out of this disappointment (that may be a
bit of an understatement), but remember that tx, successful or not, gives
your liver a real holiday from hcv.

Btw, your description of tx seems a bit chopped off (just like the tx
itself, I suppose), but were you taking peg-ifn with the Infergen or just
riba?

Just Infergen & Riba - I can't imagine doing Peg at the same time. But
I may be finding out in round 3.

Yeah my enzymes were normal during tx so that is a good thing.

I think I'll try to find a more agressive BCLD for the next round. I am
G1a & F3 with high VL so it is getting serious and I want be rid of HCV
pretty badly. I can't take a year off work or anything like that - all
that lying around feeling like sh.t would drive me totally f.cking
insane anyway. Wouldn't that be justice to get my SVR and be so crazy
that I didn't even know it.

Kill HCV and a happy holiday,
Steve

Round three? Sorry, I didn't realize this was your second dance with the
dragon.

Yup, sounds like the big guns are needed in your case, bring on the peg,
bring on the peg, bring on the peg...
Don't worry, Elmo's a pretty good coach about that particular program.

LOL!

Good luck, Steve.

Now I'm confused (well, not just now OK) - My BCLD told me that with G1
& F3, and my previous non response to IFN alpha 2 a/Riba, my chances of
SVR were much higher with Infergen/Riba than with peg-ifn/Riba tx.

You gotta trust somebody sometimes for something. Is he an idiot or
just playing it safe?

Hi Steve.  I have been under the impression that current retreatment for
relapsers/nonresponders was daily infergen, but I can't find a quick
reference.  There may not be a clear answer to your question.  Statistical
probablilites for SVR are getting murkier by the day because there are so
many studies with so many permutations.  I did find the bit of info pasted
below (from a good website called clinicaloptions.com/requires free
registration).  It's extracted from an outline of recent study results.
Also, this is a link to research article about retreatment that involves
something called ‘daily high-dose induction therapy' with interferon.
Yuck.  Anyway, I hope you can piece together part of your answer from
this.   kj

From clinicaloptions.com:
Some HCV-Infected Interferon Nonresponders/ Relapsers Achieve Sustained
Virologic Response Following 48-Week Retreatment With Peginterferon
Alfa-2b Plus Ribavirin

Summary of Key Conclusions:

~20% of HCV-infected patients who failed prior treatment with standard
interferon with or without ribavirin achieved sustained virologic response
(SVR) following 48-week retreatment with peginterferon alfa-2b plus
ribavirin

***33% of previous relapsers achieved SVR
***14% of nonresponders achieved SVR
***12% of difficult-to-treat HCV genotype 1 nonresponders achieved SVR

Background

Treatment options not well defined for HCV-infected patients who relapse
or do not respond to prior treatment with interferon with or without
ribavirin

***No clear consensus guidelines
***No FDA-approved therapies

Thanks kj -
Another medical research site to add to my ever expanding list. I
really am beginning to think that the medical people don't have a clue.
They just seem to agents of the drug companies. Next time I try tx, I
will be stronger and much better informed. This 2nd tx I entered
reluctantly, (never missed a dose though) therefore not as well
prepared as I could have been.

Thank you Steve. This really helps and is very greatly appreciated. Santa
came twice this year :-) It came today. The best of luck in when you decide
to try treatment again. Thanks again, Jim
