Well the forties are gone. That is reason enough to celebrate. The
thirties will go by quickly. I am looking at 4 week segments to have a more
optimistic approach to this. I will have 5 treatments by New Years and on 3
January will be heading to Mexico for 1 month and be going into the twenties
when I get back on 1 Feb. Okay Elmo that is all my number obsessing lol.
Week 9 was not good. Now here in snowy Ontario, we were graced with an
Alberta Clipper that dumped a foot of snow on us. We had high winds and a
good old winter storm to get us in the holiday mood or as I remember it,
giving me headaches so bad that I wanted to shoot myself. Each eye had a
dagger behind them and my head was like a bowl of hot lava bubbling out of
my skull.
Friday I had an appointment at the hospital and they suspect that my red
platelets??? (can't remember) have dropped to cause this. They went from
1.45 to 1.24 at week 4 and they will call next week with the results of my
bloodwork. Even had the BCLD come in and have a look at me. He also
thinks I am not drinking enough water - hell I do excess of 3 litres per
day. He put me on Tylenol 3's to alleviate the pain. Since then I take a
pill and sleep for 6 hrs - don't have headaches but have no idea what is
going on in the world either.
Shot in my tummy - instantly sick next day as opposed to the leg shot. Will
monitor this. Told my theory to the Dr. and they said to do 4 tummy shots
and 2 legs. Different strokes for different folks.
Any comments on my red blood cells/platelets etc. and what is the fix.
Canadave I remember you have some difficulty early on - same thing? Oh yes
I have really bad shortness of breath and phlegm in my throat, like I am a
smoker. Nurse said something about that being part of this any comments on
that?

Mags,
I will check my treatment diary for my platlet counts in the same time
frame as you. My memory is a bit sketchy at times but I do believe I was
going through the same blood chemistry stuff in that period as you are now.
How about your WBC count? That is the super critical one in my estimation
as it shows how able your body is to resist infections on its own. You must
not carry too much weight around your middle to be favouring the legs
technique and lauch site over the midsection. I adjusted to the belly shot
and never did get off it right through the whole 48. Used the U-mix kit
with the hypodermic syringes that came in the pegetron box. But at that
time, I had a bit of a belly roll to jab. Turned into a prune man about
week 42 and even my wifes jeans from 20 ago when we were all slimmer, slid
right off me unless I tied them up like Jethro Bodine.
Week 12 thru 20 if you make your 2 log drop or better at week 12, will
really start to dictate to your body just where you put your energies. You
should be trying to cram down food as much as possible right now, I think.
You will need the weight to give you strength to complete the treatment. I
hope that right behind the Alberta Clipper came a BC Bud Blossom as it is
quite effective in mellowing tx sides and allows you to eat and sleep in
some peace.
And the phlegm part. That I went through to, right up to about a month
ago (one month post tx) it used to wake me up and I would stumble around the
house, expectorate a couple of times, then return to bed and hopefully get
back to sleep. I used BC Bud a bit to help there, too. In the clinic I was
visiting they call that side effect the "wet cough".
hope this helps...you're doing fine, I think... do not be afraid to ask

Thanks for keeping up the posts mags. That bit about shot in the stomach =

What was happening to me Doug is when I shot in my leg the sickness was
delayed to Monday and not evenly spaced out during the treatment. When I
shot in my tummy I would recover enough by Monday to be able to work.
Better sick instantly then delayed 3 days.

Um, does that mean you'll be waking up in the middle of the night to run for
the bathroom?

I am staying at the Costa Club Puntarena in a 2 bedroom apartment. Get to
have the all inclusive without the booze etc. I can hardly wait. Any places
you recommend seeing/staying at?

Within a few weeks of starting, my platelets, RBCs and WBCs all plummeted.
I was prescribed weekly Neupogen and Eprex (Procrit) injections which seemed
to stabilize them (no effect on the platelets), but haven't built them back
up.
I went from a hemoglobin in the 150s down to the 90s. I'm now in the low
100s. Can't avoid the shortness of breath.
Good luck mags,
30 down and 18 to go,
David
