This is something that's never sat well with me, not for moral reasons but
because it just because it doesn't make any sense.
It's frequently stated that having more than one sexual partner increases
the risk of contracting hepatitis c.
Okay, let's assume that blood-to-blood contact can occur during sex, and we
all know that this is how HCV is transmitted.
Now why would having two sexual partners be a risk when having just one
partner isn't?
Why would the risk be increased with the number of sexual partners?
Am I missing something here?

Dunno! I think it's a bullshit story myself. I've been putting in some serious
research too. Besides, the doctor told me it wasn't and he was a top liver
specialist.

The common explaination is that with multiple partners (and I think they mean
being very promiscuous), you increase the risk of encountering a partner
where blood-to-blood contact can occur and the disease is spread. Sounds
like a crock to me too.

Except that there seems to be almost zero risk of transmission between
sexually active monogamous couples when one has Hep C and the other
doesn't.

Right and that's why I don't get their multiple partner statement.  I've had this
disease for 25 years and my wife doesn't have it.  Of course I had my kids
checked also. They're ok too.

You guys are reiterating my thoughts exactly. The part that irks me is that
the negative association, i.e. sexual promiscuity and hep c, propagates the
stigma associated with the disease.

I recently happened upon an old HCV pamphlet.Just a few years ago people
were advised to avoid using the same utensils, sterilize pretty much
everything after HCV  infected person has used it,and yes no sex at all with
a infected person. This pamphlet was 13 years old.

Does this mean that a guy should sterilize his 'wanger' after having sex
with an infected somebody?  Just curious.  :-)
(soak it in bleach or alcohol, run it through the autoclace?)

Three minutes on defrost?

I think C.Everett Koop had a lot to do with the attitudes that have been
promulgated from the CDC. When he was in office. I always got a "Queer"
feeling from him as to the fact that sump'in ai'nt right wit dat boy! Could
the chin beard be a type of subconscious replacement for any genitalia
related problems?? Or maybe he was just the ships wife while at sea!!!
Hmmm.....

Back when I was on treatment I remember this coming up, and thinking
that there must be something else that people who have more partners are
doing.  More drugs?  Rougher sex?  Anal sex?  More STDs?  I don't think
anyone has a clue.

Lets try that again.  lap tops were not meant for the likes of Bill Gates.
At least in this Outlook Express program.

this is what I was saying:

"Too bad that people tend to generalize while in search for answers and

and it goes onto say

fit demographically next to the same set of folks who tended to contract Hep
C through IV drug usage and needle sharing.  So perhaps we should just take
note that once again statistics can lie when drawn upon to support
hypotheses that the data were not meant to apply.  In other words, a
coincidence to us but a solid fact to a cement head.

snowing here now.  woodworking all day in carport cousin elmo's guitar is on
the bench.  getting the glue job.  myrtle and mahogany with broadleaf maple,
and some yew.  So MYE, if you read this, snow is not the end-all of
everything.  8-)

Hi CJ, just had to give you a little dig here... Today, in Pender Harbour,
the sun is shining and earlier I was wandering about in my yard with only a
sweatshirt on, admiring the roses still in bloom!

Myrtle is a great wood-- they named it after me. <grin>

Gee WS you never have to change your underwear if all you got on is your tee
shirt.  Pretty handy that Pender Harbour.

LOL @ CJ... you *know* what I meant!

p.s. And it's a sweatshirt, not a t-shirt. It's not *that* nice here.

Careful now.  Such activities can lead to increased risk for Hepatitis
C infection.
