Hello,

I'll be starting treatment soon and I can either choose the Roche or
Schering Peg-Interferon/Ribivarin product. Anyone have a comment of one
vs. the other? Any subtle differences that I should be aware of?

Thanks.

Peg intron seems to cause more thyroid problems compared to Pegasys with
Roche. Are you sure about the 3 liver biopsies that does not sound right
at all. Some one in here was saying the same thing and later found out
it was only 1 biopsy required. I did a study with peg intron and they
only wanted 1. Make sure as it is a good deal to have them hand you
boxes of the drugs necessary for tx and your ins would still be used for
any additional drugs necessary to keep you on tx.  Good luck

There seems to be a popular opinion that Schering's Peg-Intron is harder to
tolerate than Roche's Pegasys. Having only done the former, I have no
first-hand knowlege as to the veracity of said opinion.

I've done both Roche and Schering's brand of peglyated interferons.
Pegasys was a bit easier.  I had a 'major event' while taking Schering's
that would have caused me to be dropped from the clinical study I was in
if they had found out.  But my GI wasn't made aware of the incident
until after it was resolved and I continued on the meds.  Both brands
are equally effective within a few percentage points, or so they say.  I
achieved SVR in my third round of tx by using daily Infergen, then both
daily Infergen and Pegasys for a few weeks at the same time, then with
Pegasys to finish the 11 months.  I was also taking 7 caps of
ribavirin/day (weight was 195 lbs) and Amantadine.
I would opt for the Roche brand if I had to do it over again.
