Wow what a night. Here I was thinking I am going to have an easy time of
this - took my first shot in the afternoon and laid in bed waiting for
things to happen. Got up an posted here about how great I felt. Well about
15 minutes later, my knees started to ache, then it was like getting hit by
a car. I was full steam ahead, fever, chills, bone aches like no tomorrow.
I had a bath so hot I probably burned my skin. Socks, flannel pj's, fleece
sheets. I felt my body was a battleground for the dragon and the drugs.
Linda Blair had nothing compared to this. Well this lasted until about 5 am
this morning and I feel exhausted right now. Took my 2 riba for breakfast
and chocked down a piece of toast. Have a very dull head ache and think I
will go lie down.
I do recall my Dr. telling me that he was using the 2b drug so it will hit
me really hard for 3 weeks compared to the pegasys 2a which gradually builds
in your system.

That's right, Mags! One down!! You're doing great!!! Put on your
space helmet, strap yourself in, and enjoy the ride. The view out the
side porthole is fabulous.

Classic.
Nothing like a slow-motion train wreck to boost ones resolve, eh? ;-)
This will occur to you - if it hasn't already - but "energy conservation" may
become your friend as you proceed along the path. Try not to put yourself in
situations that are taxing - physically or emotionally - so as to allow your
body its best ability to cope with the treatment sides.
I'd also be careful about hot baths or showers in the future, it not only
washes oils out of your skin leaving it dry, it also drives histamine levels
up, and as the Ribavirin effects start building up (takes weeks for most
folks) eventually dry skin and increased histamine will be the *last* things
you're going to want.
So you are officially a member of the Friday Nite Shooting Club. You've Been
There, Done That, Got the Soaked Sheets to Prove It. Congrats!
Now go forth, Dragon Slayer, and wreak havoc on the viroid invader!

Congratulations, Mags, you're hopefully through the worst of it (my first
shot was by far the worst). My formula for an "easy" (hahahaha) shot was to
take a Tylenol and a Gravol about a half-hour before shot time, which was
about midnight, and I'd sleep through the worst of it. Good luck, hang in,
keep us posted on your sides. And drink lots of water!

I had a side effect they called "rigors" with my first shot, which sounds a
lot like what you had. I was buried under a pile of blankets shaking so
hard I couldn't talk. They told me it usually only happens once, so
hopefully it'll be a little smoother from now on. Keep it up--you can do
this!

hehe, I know Its not funny but we can all relate to it Mags. It really is
down hill as far as fevers go and things "will" get better. Long term the
interferon and Riva will start to wear you down but mental fortitude or
positive attitude is the key to making it the rest of the way.

Just remember how bad this one was and how you made
it through anyway. It will help your resolve. If you haven't
already, try taking tylenol pm before doing your shot. I
was either lucky enough to never have the really bad shot
reactions or I slept through the worst of them.
Also, I agree with limiting hot showers. After the Riba starts
invading your system your going to need all that moisture the
hot showers will strip out. Stock up on lotion and get used to
carrying a bottle of water with you everywhere you go.
Don't know if it is psychological or if I am still just thirsty
all the time but 9 months post tx and I still do.

Good luck Mags. Looks like we are starting treatment at the same time. I had
it some what bad the first night but it sounded a bit rougher for you. Hope
the next 47 are easier for you.

Hi mags,
sounds exactly like my first injection, but I started showing
sympthoms just 3/4 hours after the shot.
Anyway, if it goes as it usually goes, next injection should be quite
easier for you, and so on.
Good luck.
Cheers,
jeeb.
