"If Hep C was attacking your face instead of your liver you'd do
something about it".

"Ready to fight back?"

Full page ad in the NY Daily News.  Directs you to hepcfight.com, a site
run by Roche.

It's pretty hard sell, but not much different than many of people's
opinions here.

Wow,
Have not seen it but it dosen't surprize me.  This stuff

A moneymaker for who?
smith21347@msn.com - 28 Sep 2005 03:22 GMT
Who?
The people who ran the fear factor ad.  Roche.   It worked
to get Bush elected.  I suppose if it worked for Bush it could work for
Roche.

I understand the sentiment but I like the idea of the ad: if you could
see what was being done to your liver you might not so easily decide to
postpone treatment.

Of course that makes it very cruel to the people who can't do treatment
or for whom it didn't work.

Uh... I've just visited the web site, there's a copy of the photo
published by the newspaper, it is quite shocking, isn't it?

In my opinion, it is _really_ important that knowledge about HepC and
its existence is spreaded, every day.
Somebody doesn't actually know anything about this disease, and I'm
even talking about people who might have it.

So, let's hope that the "same-old-story" about HepC, the "silent
epidemic" about which _almost_ nobody cares about, is finally going to
finish.

Cheers,
jeeb.

P.S.: Gordo, how are you? so did you get your SVR?

Yes.  Imagine that full-page in your morning paper, unexpected.

Doing great.  Had some depression issues and am taking an anti-d that
seems to be working.  My last Hep C VL was 7 months after finishing tx
and it was clear so I've officially got an SVR!

:-) That is great, Gordo!
Congratulations, I am really, really happy for you.

Thanks.  Fingers crossed for you as well.

I would not object to this ad if it were a public info spot.  If it had
to do with the condition of your lungs and the death of 186,000 smokers
every year or the condition of your liver from drinking with who knows
how many deaths each year.  However this ad is for the sale of a drug
from a drug company.

And your problem with that is... what? If you'd actually look at the
site, you'd see that it's relatively neutral, and doesn't push Roche's
drugs specifically. It does push treatment, but so does every
responsible HCV advocate. Raising awareness of HCV is a good thing, no
matter what motives are behind it.

Um... so... if there was absolutely no possibility of curing hep C, if there
was no treatment available, then you'd approve of the ad???

That's a hell of a good point. Hesitancy for tx would diminish
drastically if your face looked like your liver. People whose livers are
all scarred don't act as quickly as those with melonoma torturing their
face. We should treat what our insides look like just as we would our
outsides . bri

Hey, Spunky's face looks great.  He's pretty damn handsome for a
liver......and he's had the hep for ages.

I have seen seen Spunky. He's quite revolting, but he has a certain
aristacratic mug. I do believe I"d like to bond with
Spunky-----medically speaking. He looks like a fiesty specimen. Hey
elmo. Hope things are ok bro.  Arghh, bri

I don't think you really want Spunky....liverally speaking.  He's got
the hep, although he's improved since being removed from the patient.
Besides, we'd miss him around the office here.

Re Hep C treament advertising

This is the second picture in that ad that I have seen.  The first
looked like a boxer after a fight. It was brought to my attention from
a neighbor who knows how it's been for me.
I think it works because how many times have you been told you look too
good to be sick!  I get it all the time.
In your face, a full page ad running weekly? It's about time.
Who cares if it's drug co supported, it is calling attention to
something that people still don't get about the disease.
