Just left the Dr's office. They're starting to push the idea of getting
a transplant. We have to wait to see what the labs say and then talking
to the transplant specialist if needed. I've already told them I want to
do a round of Infergen first if I have the time. They agreed on the
Infergen, but said it might be time to get on the list. Still a lot of
if's, but I'm not sure just how much time I have to wait for the next tx
to come around. Oh well, back to waiting again to find out what comes next.

What stage are you in? Are you having any symptoms yet, if so what are
they. Of course, go for treatment if you can, but if you are looking at
the possibility of transplant, start looking around for friends, family
who would be willing to be living donors.

I've known about having cirrhosis since my first biopsy in '92 and have
tried tx twice. The problems I'm experiencing now are fatigue and a lot
of swelling in my feet and legs( lasix hasn't helped this time as it has
in the past). I've also got portal hypertension and esophageal (sp)
verices thrown in just to make it more interesting. I'm still scared,
but hoping that a transplant is still somewhere in the far distant
future if ever. I'll know more when lab results come back. I'm not
looking forward to tx again, but it seems the better of the two choices.

That's what was going on with me. Lasix wasn't helping the ascites, had
the portal hypertension, had to get banded a few times for varices,
big-time fatigue, had to go on Lactulose syrup for ammonia build-up.
The transplant is not bad at all, it reverses all the problems. You
will feel better than you have in 30 years. You have to take
anti-rejection drugs, but they aren't bad a all.
I hope you can still get tx, but a transplant isn't bad at all. It gave
me back my life.

Hi Dwight!  I don't blame you for being a bit scared.  I would think
you'd be better off shedding the hcv before a transplant rather than
dealing with it afterwards, if in fact you need one.  Hope you get good
lab results and don't have to go that route.

Sorry to hear that Dwight and I hope that Infergen idea works out for
you.  Hope those labs turn out better than expected.

hang in there. Sounds like you have good docs. If they give you the
chance at the drug then go for it! Keep us informed as you travel thru
this. And I cant say "dont be afraid", but I can say you have some
company here. Randy

Thanks Randy. I do have good docs, they have been working my case since
1992.

Dwight, I wish there were some soothing words to allay your fears, but I've
got some of my own. Fear of going broke, going crazy, and the common all
round fear of failure, as well as the unknown, but all the fear and worrying
never helped at all, and is physically and emotionally draining. When the
time comes, whatever happens will happen, whether you feared it or not will
not make a hoot of difference in the long run. You're one of the good guys
around here, I hope you decide to stick around for awhile. I'd offer to
donate to you a part of my sickened, Swiss cheese holed, diseased ridden
liver, but I'm using it myself,(that is, what's left of it). You'll be fine,
I'm sure.

Thanks John, I'm not in shock anymore and am feeling a lot more secure.
I agree with you, worrying doesn't help anything so there isn't much
purpose for it (still easier said than done). I'm here in Texas and
lucky enough to be just far enough to the West that no big storms are
hitting here as well, just supposed to have a little rain later.

Dwight, As you may know I had to go the transplant route. One thing to think
on is this. You can get on the list for a transplant and decline if the
calls comes and still stay on the list. If you wait, the call might come and
there won't be anyone home to answer it (catch my drift?).

Shawn, I've been thinking about you while I try to make up my mind. Most
of the blood work has come back in good shape with a few more tests to
come in. So far everything is looking better than what they first
stated. So I'm just sitting here waiting again.

Dwight

Yeah, it's the waiting that can drive you outta your mind!!!
