Hello.  I am new here.  I have been reading awhile but this is my first
post.  I was diagnosed a couple years ago with HepC Genotype1 but I was
drinking and running away from it and the Gasto would not treat me.
I have been clean and sober for 6 months now, and my Gastro has ordered a
liver biopsy.  From there I expect to go on interferon and riba.

I live in FL, am 52, married to 3rd wife.  Kids are grown and gone.

I have read a lot of nightmare stories about treatment, about the terrible
side effects, and I worry about how bad it will be for me.  I know one
person who has been through it and he says it "wasn't that bad".  His virus
is back now, and I am not sure what he is doing about it.

My chief complaint these days is fatigue.  If I get 7-8 hours sleep, I feel
OK until about mid afternoon, then I just feel like taking it easy.  On less
sleep, I feel lousy.  I am taking a multivatimin, extra C, B1, E, Garlic.
Wobenzym and Milk thistle before meals, trazadone before bed and zoloft in
the morning.  Sometimes on Saturday after a long week I don't have the
energy to do much of anything except lay on the couch and watch TV.  This
weekend I was OK and actually managed to mow and fertilize the grass.

I guess I am looking for any comments or suggestions, and perhaps a bit of
support.

Thanks for reading this.

Old Pirate,

If you're near or live in South Florida,
The Center For Liver Diseases,
a Department of the University Of Miami,
might be able to help you.

Yes, treatment can be difficult but they're coming out
with new studies all the time.

Good Luck

Hello Fella - welcome to our rag-tag band.  If you have the patience to
read back through these posts you will find much information about how
treatment might be for you. Belive me, it will help you handle the rough
spots. I am 49, genotype 1b, halfway through treatment, and wonder every
minute how i will get through 6 more months. I dont work, i barely buy
groceries and cook, though as time passes i seem to be doing better.  You
will get lots of advice here.  The first wrong thing i did during
treatment was to let my weight drop, so now its tough to keep it up.  So
force yourself to eat something regularly from the beginning. you will
lose your desire for alcohol, fear not.

What is good about this site is that its so active and you can comiserate
at all hours.  im pretty new here myself and i see that the old timers
here have amazing stamina for supporting each other.

My viral load is undetectable at the halfway mark and every day i am
thankful that i even have the opportunity to try treatment.  We will want
to know the results of your liver biopsy, we are snoopy that way.  Stay
posted.

Hi bud,I too posted first time last week(interferon
withdrawal, simon).thanks, all for your support and suggestions. As for my
own experience anyway,I was administering the injection in my stomach
as suggested by my doc.At 200 lbs it was no problem,a bit of stomach
ache next day and DEFINITELY no appetite, when I started losing
weight, about 8lbs per month it hurt more and more.I talked to some
people and decided to inject in my bum,no more cramps and at least I
could eat a bit next day(not exactly starving to eat anyway!) also
injecting before I went to bed Saturday night.Sunday was a write
off,but almost ok to go to work on Monday (owning an automotive shop
didn't allow me to give up work!) Anyway hope this helps, have a
good"Day out of Time" day.simon

Thanks to all for making me feel welcome.  Phil, I am in south FL, and I
looked at that link.  It does sound like something worth investigating.
Kathy, thanks for the info and support.  I was out in the Missoula area in
February for a wedding.  In '87 I was out there and toured Glacier park.  I
am still in awe of that place.
Simon thanks for the info and kind words.  I will try and stay in touch
here.  I am looking back at some older posts to get an idea of what to
expect with tx.
Blue skies and calm seas,
