Well my blood work came back and I am geno type 1 b.  Is this a life
sentence?  Everything I have read shows a 20% chance of beating this.  I see
the specialist tomorrow.  What should I be asking him?

Hey Mags the tears actually just dry up after a while.  They annoyed the
hell out of my specialist at first but he got used to it.  Just keep
wiping your nose while you speak.  They're not good because they
contribute to dehydration.  Any way here's a link to a recent news article
for genotype 1.  I keep finding that the odds are 50-50 (way better than
vegas} and you want to look for an Early Virological Reduction at 12
weeks.

If this link thing doesn't work I'll try it again.

Thanks Kathy.  As I was blubbering home from work - I thought luck comes in
three's.  I have had a hole in one in golf, a royal flush in spades and
hopefully recovery from this.

Also Mags, you will want to download this and read it again and again over
coming months.  http://www.hepcchallenge.org/choices/PDF.htm

You will lose weight, so stock your kitchen now as if Y2K were upon you.
Buy luxury items like expensive tuna and olive oil. Cheeses.  Instant
oatmeal. Lots of it.  Dried fruit. Noodles. I get hungry for red meat,
but I came into this anaemic (amoeabic? sp?)with low ferritin and an ok
liver.  They say to avoid high iron foods if your liver isn't good.  Don't
rush into tx if you can gain a few pounds in a couple weeks and organize
personal stuff.

I have put on 30 lbs over the last 6 years.  I blame it on menopause and
horomone pills and quitting smoking - although I am mighty tempted to
restart smoking again.  I obviously have enough fat on me to survive.

Fat = good if you go on tx and lose weight
Fat = bad if, based on your weight, you need to take a higher dose of
Ribavirin.

Don't smoke.  Resist, resist, resist.  I used to smoke and I think
smoking on tx would have been the most disgusting thing ever.

This isn't the worst thing that could happen to you.  It sucks, it can
be difficult, but you've got a very good chance of beating it.
