lasting effects of tx

My doc told me that there was no downside to treatment, that is once I
finish, the sides will diminish after 6 months and I'll be in the condition
I was before tx (assuming it doesn't work).  I've read here and elsewhere of
lasting ill effects like neuroma and skin conditions.  I'm seeing her this
Friday and would like to challenge her on this.

What lasting or permanent ill effects have you heard of post-tx?

Also, she doesn't want to treat my nausea due to the hepatic effects of the
treatment.  Opinions?  What treatments work?  (Ginger snaps don't work for
me.)

Thanks,

David

PS  Cactus Jammies...I didn't answer you about location...I'm waaay out east
in Ontario.

Six months out after six months of treatment and I have no lasting
effects except for an SVR.

I used to bake marijuana into brownies.  Worked like a charm.

Ginger snaps BS. They prescribed me compazine for my barfy feeling. It
worked well. Lasting effects yes, some do have them.
I have a thyroid that is hypo but I don't have HCV, small price to pay
to get rid of HCV.                             Juanita

That's ok, I don't mind.  Besides, the tx for it is worse than the
condition itself.

I suffered neuropathy and demyelination as well as some atrophy of the optic
nerve. I lost some of my more subtle colour vision and my vision is dimmer.
Atrophy is a one-way street. I am still on Neurontin and Ultram for pain.

Thyroid problems are one of the most common side effects of tx--mostly
hypothyroidism, but sometimes hyperthyroidism, either of which can become
permanent. Any doctor who makes a blanket statement like yours did is either
a liar or an ignoramus.

Sides affecting the blood, like anaemia for instance, will right themselves
after about three months, but it's stupid to say that there are no permanent
effects. Cranking your immune system into overdrive can allow autoimmune
conditions to develop--the longer the tx, the more likely the problems.
Generally people who only have 24 weeks of tx rebound much more quickly than
those who are in for the long haul. I know someone who developed
polymyositis, which is where the immune system attacks the muscles--a very
debilitating and painful condition. Yes, it's rare, but so is sarcoidosis,
which I managed to develop too. Luckily, that went away soon after I
stopped. My doctor didn't even recognize it and I had to go to a
dermatologist to be diagnosed. He said that he had seen this problem several
times already. My doctor told me that I should NEVER take IFN again--good
job that I have remained undetectable!

I had pretty severe joint pain for about 9 months after I finished my
last round of tx.  I'm sure many of you remember me complaining about my
shoulders bothering me alot.  Oddly enough, just a few months ago my
pain completely disappeared and has been gone ever since.  I'm sure
there's a rational explanation for it, I just don't know what it is.
:-)  but I aint complaining
