Anyone know which of these if either offer better results?

GK,
for what? 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, or 6
               a or b?

most folks that I have heard about luckily only have to do one course so it
would be pretty tough to compare from a subjective viewpoint, I think.
There does statistically seem to be better results with the 48 week IFN a2B
and g-type 1 a or b.  It's a slim advantage apparently.  There are pretty
good online sources for checking out this type of FAQ, not that it hurts to
have any information re-enforced by others first hand from time to time.
The Medline archive is pretty concise, about everything. largely from a
professional research perspective but has lots of links.

hope this helps

Yeah, it helps. I'm 1a. I'll look around Medline.

Thanks.

From everything that's been published so far, the differences are
negligible.
See http://www.kenes.com/easl2005sci/program/abstracts/585.doc

"Sustained virologic response (SVR) and relapse after end of treatment
response (EOTR) are shown in the table. Premature discontinuation due to
adverse events or patient request was identical with 27/83 patients
(32%) each. Conclusion: In this matched pair analysis no statistical
significant differences in efficacy and tolerance were observed between
peginterferon alfa-2a and peginterferon alfa-2b."

Hi GK,
Pegasys (alfa-2a) plus ribavirin is 53% effective (2b) is 44% for for all
types of Hep C.
It has an even more effect on types 2-8
Go to www.pegasys.com for more info.

Hi Sue,

Interesting. The study that Thomas posted shows something different.
It shows 2b being slightly more effective for all types, both before
and after relapse numbers are taken into consideration.

I will take a look at the pegasys website, though.

Thanks.

Ehm... going to the manufacturers website for a specific product will
not likely give you unbiased information. Besides, comparing the overall
numbers on that site is nonsensical, because they are based on different
trials, different dosage, and different populations.

Again, independent studies have not found any significant differences in
SVR.

For me it was the different approaches in ribavirin dosing that swung it.
For genotype 3 Pegasys is genotype dosed (800mg for everyone) whereas
Pegintron is weight based (which would have been 1200mg for me).
