As many of you know from my post on March 31 that my riba was cut back due
to ever falling WBC (white blood count) of 1.3. I had another CBC taken
monday after several days of lowered riba and it's still 1.3. Doc took me
off riba but not Peg.
I asked my BCLD several times about my spleen and he said it's okay.
However my cat scan that I gave him copies of said it was abnormally
enlarged. The hemotologist that he sent me to today, told me what was in
the report. He also called my BCLD while I was in his office to see if HCV
could cause a spleen to enlarge and he said "not that he knew of!"
Well when I got home, on went the computer and I did a google search on
the spleen, it took all of two minutes to show All the things that could
make your spleen hold white blood cells etc. and cause it to enlarge,
bingo HCV was one of them. Did some printing for the hemotologist who had
me in the hospital this afternoon to take a bone marrow sample (ouch) and
of course he covered the other docs a.s by saying chronic liver disease
meant cirrhosis, I told him to read on to were it said HCV in a very nice
way.
This is the second time since my HCV dx in November that I decided to feel
sorry for myself and did a little blubbering in a restaurant having lunch
with hubby, Cool huh?
Anyway they want to see if my WBC comes up on it's own first and the plan
is to start me on riba again with Neupogen. I am kind of happy in a way,
being off the riba 'cause as we all know, it sucks!
But I guess I'll be on it again soon and dragging my tired a.s around and
running to put in an a tiolet so I can riba sh.t, huffing and puffing to
catch my breath, you all know the deal.
This is why it is do important for all of you n to do your homework! Check
in with this NG even if it's only a simply question. And google, google,
google or Ask Jeeves!!
I'm not letting them take out my spleen if they suggest it. They say it's
not an essential gland, but without it you are more likly to develop
infections etc.
Hope everyone else is well and happy tonight.

Good for you. Finding info on the web is great. Same thing for me about my
thyroid.
After hearing about Thomas and Juanita, who both had interferon induced
thyroiditis like myself and recovered thyroid function, I was able to argue
with my BCLD who was adamant that I would be on Synthroid for life. sh.t he
had no idea that the thyroid could recover. Mine seems to be, I just did
another TSH yesterday and will know Monday the results. I've been slowly
cutting my dose down 2 months at a time and my TSH has been fine, 2.4 on the
last one. One more dose reduction, I guess 25 micrograms/day. I think 50ug
is the smallest dose. Maybe I can just stop??
Anyway without the experiences of this group and the internet I wouldn't
have any idea and would be taking meds I don't need.....

Thanks for responding to my post, I guess Alias won the reply race again! I
think that they should remember why we are all here!
Glad you are getting better and reducing your dose, your TSH will be just
fine.
It seems that we go day to day waiting for test results, to find out what
meds we will be on next.
