Hi folks. Lots of new people around here lately. I haven't posted much in
last few months, but am still checking in a few times a week (hard to leave
this disfunctional virtual family). Just thought I'd share the results of
my recent visit with the Heptalogist - 8 months after I finished 48 weeks of
Pegasys/Copegus.
The learned professor offered two options: 1) retreatment with higher dose
INF/Riba for TWO YEARS, 2) sit tight, monitor blood work and
repeat biopsy in 2-3 years.
As much as I want to kill the dragon and be done with it, I really am not
emotionally or physically prepared to do another two years of nonstop tx. I
had myself psyched up for one more year of intensive tx - that I could
handle. Two more years is too daunting a task for me to consider right now.
I'm a stage 2, so the BCLD thinks it would be OK to hold off and see what
develops. So.... it looks like I'm going for door #2. Who knows, maybe
someone will come up with that magic bullet in the meantime!
Good luck to everyone. I'll still be lurking. Anyone with laboratory
questions feel free to email me ( I do check email almost daily ).

Very sorry to hear that. Well, at least your liver caught a break and
maybe healed some. I don't blame you for deciding to hold off
considering those options. Take a break and maybe some better options
will come up. Good luck.

Thanks Don. I'm hoping you're correct about some healing in the liver.
Seems to be enough literature to support that supposition.

Oh my, two years - I don't think I could make it, even with the
relatively mild sides I had. Didn't even make the full year.

I sure hope at least one of the new treatments proves to be a
breakthrough. At stage 2, you may well have enough time to wait it out.
Good luck!

Thanks Thomas. I'm kind of planning on the stage 2 being in my favor. At
least I know that many of the big drug companies are working on
treatment solutions. With the number of HCV positive people around it is
just too big (and lucrative) a market to ignore. I'll be watching for your
excellent posts on current developments.

Thom-
Sorry to hear the news. Hopefully your liver has had a "break" and you can
wait for a while and see if any new options come available. I love your
grandsons wisdom!! :-)

Thanks Mark. My grandson is one of the people who helped make tx tolerable,
as well as being one of the reasons I want to hang around a while longer in
this incarnation. His trademark t-shirt is one that epitomized my brain fog
while on tx. It reads: "I'm confused - wait, maybe I'm not......"

Damn Thom,
So hate to hear that but I'm with you. 2 years is way too long for that
crap. I'd go with door #2 also. Take care and keep in touch.

Thanks hc. It's always good to hear from you. Good luck with your legal
rep endeavors. It sounds like a great opportunity. Who knows, maybe we
could hire you as an expert negotiator some day. With our hospital gaining
Critical Access status, and the three off-site labs running full speed
ahead, it would be nice to have a trusted legal consultant that actually
understands medical record numbers represent real people.
