Well, my buddy pulled through the operation, they expected 4 to 6 hour, but
was in recovery in 3 and a half hours. Also was able to order the nurses to
take the respirator out long enough for him to tell his partner he was "A
OK" and make sure she called Bobby and Bobby started the link of calls he
had set up. No sh.t, I made up a CD for him that starts off with Joe Walsh's
"Lifes been good to me so far" and he wanted that but they couldn't let that
in do to infection control. So he's doing well, I've breathed a giant sigh
of relief....If things went wrong, a few difficult things were relegated to
me, and believe me, watching him get on that plane to Boston, thinkin in the
back of my head, this could be the last time that i saw him, was not easy.
We been fightin the hep, same doc, as friends and Injuns for as long as it
could could be detected, about a year before it could be lamely treated (at
the time).
He's actually at the Neally (?) house a cancer treatment joint. The
combination of disabling hep c and then 3 tumors on his liver which appeared
6 months after his last year of mega dose daily interferon, got him on the
list 3 months ago as a cancer patient that couldn't be treated due to liver
damage from the hep....And a doctor who has taught more gasto's on this
planet than any git out. PULL is the word.
Any way, hospital says 10 weeks till he can come home, he says 3 or they can
ship him to the nut wing, I thing we can keep him distacted enough to get
him through 6, then its up to the pro's. Bad thing for me is up to this
point, when my liver begins to fail, I had a plan of sight seeing, 1 week of
drunken terror, and then a lame a.s hike up the mountain, with a bottle of
pills and some Yukon Jack, and let the coyotes fight over me....I promised
him, if he made it, I begin the process of getting on the list. The
oppertunity has been there for a little over a year now. Gotta get proof of
enlistment before I see him!
I give all this info as some of you may be questioning the decision, all of
you are eligable as transplants may be a solution, and also cause, the
battle ain't over yet, and I gotta make a few trips to Bost, 5 hours away,
the furthest I been from home, in 5 years is 2 hours, with 20 minute rest
stops. "Looking out on the road rushing under my wheels....Running on
empty-running blind"

Right on, Bobby!!!!  That's very good news.  Give Mayal's 'Walking On
Sunset' a listen.  Seems like it might be appropriate for the tape
you're making.

Wow, that is great news.  Very scary stuff.  The best of luck to your
friend with his new liver.

Hooray!! I'm glad for  your friend Bobby!! I've been through the transplant
process myself and still recovering. Mine was done in March of 'aught three
(tee hee, I love that word). He's got a long row to hoe but I'm sure with
friends like you he'll pull through just fine!!

Another wonderful story.  What state was that in?  Where?

My friend Susan in FL is doing well after transplant on 12/12 (8 hrs.
in surgery).  Headed down on 1/8 to visit her for a few days and
wander around FL a little - get warm!

Hey Shawn, He's in Boston although we are from Vermont. They only know how
to do stiches and meds here. Once he woke up, one of the first things he
said to his partner was "you are looking tired, go get some rest". Thats the
kind of guy he is, always worrying about others.
Thanks for the reply and support all.

Not Shawn - It's me, Xarlos.

Any of y'all ever go to:

http://www.unos.org/

??

Good stats there.

I see that Mass. has done 111 liver transplants this year.

Florida has done 431!!!  That's incredible.

Susan tells me that most of them are in Tampa.
