In spite of the discouraging results initially,(I have type 2b geno and the
14th wek of combo tx I went from 3.2mm donw to only 100,000) my Doc says it
is worth a try to keep at it for another 12 weks, his reasoning is it's
easier to go to undetedcable from 100m than 3.2mm. lthough I do not look
forward to it, I am game to try, and hopefully this time I will make sure to
take the Riba with food, not on an empty stomach as before, I understand
this can have significant effects on the absorption although I must admit
Ihave no idea why. Since I was admantly compliant about the treatment and
since the odds are supposed to be 80% plus I was assured of a successful
outcome the first time only to be let down and angry when it did not
respond! I figured the 20% nonresponders had to be people who did not follow
exactly the directions, missed doses shots, drank or used drugs or whatever.
OK now to face the reality that maybe in spite of all that, it is 20% and as
has been told to me recently that is a large number.
Well here goes and hope fo r the best,
Thank youfor all the helpful responses in the past......

Sincerely
BC

Hi BC,

So so sorry to hear your results. I'm type 2 and I pop in here every once in
a while. I agree with your doc, and I'd do the same. Wishing you well,
Suzanne

Are you getting more of the same or are you trying a different
interferon with riba?
It's the fat content in food that helps your body absorb more of the
ribavirin.  Taking them on an empty stomach can mean up to 40% less
being absorbed.  A glass of whole milk, ice cream (hehe), a peanut
butter and jelly sandwich are excellent sources of fat.
Go get em, BC!

I did menyion Amatadine to the Doc and he said there were no encouraging
numbers yet on results. I a sticking with the same as I have been, Peg
Intron and 800mgs Riba a day, since I hae munimal Liver Damage I do
understand that I have a fairly good chance of permanant side effects and
since I feel I have some time yet I am not ready to go full out yet . I am
hoping something will come along in the next 5 or 10 years.

Yes, the Amantadine results have generally been disappointing, except
for a few limited studies. Probably not worth the additional side
effects.

Well just did shot 19, since I have # 24 coming up in 5 weeks I decided to
continue with Pegasys for the time being and get a VL check at #24. If I am
still not responding I will try to change meds, Docs or both since I do not
see any point after that to continue a losing battle. i think this makes
sinse after all, I was actually at 3% not 1% of initial VL (3.2mm vs
100,000) after 16 weeks and while it is still 3 times the recommended level
it is also a hell of a drop IMHO.

Thanx all who ahve replied.
