Happy Birthday, today is the BIGGG day!!
Get on over here and bend over my lap so's I can give you a proper
spanking.  If you've got a pair of red shoes, I can get you a free
dinner over at St Elmo's Steakhouse in Indianapolis.  Will pick you up
at 7.  :-)

Thanks for the birthday wishes everyone!

Elmo, I swear I've got a pair of read shoes somewhere, but couldn't find
them in time.

Post-birthday present. Had an appointment to see the doctor (not you, Elmo!)
today and he looked at my lab results and said, "Well, I guess we can
probably say you're cured." Last shot was July 31, 2004. Follow-up
appointment in May. LFTs still in the mid-teens and yes, I had a glass of
wine with my birthday meal. Doctor knows I have an occasional glass of wine
and does not object, but then of course--he's French!

Here's wishing SVRs to everyone!

But of course! Seriously, it's almost impossible to find wine from other
countries here. I managed to find a bottle of Spanish Rioja at the
supermarket a few months ago to give as a gift to someone. They commented on
how good it was and how very different from the different French wines.

It's so great to have LFTs in the teens. The doctor is sure that my liver has
regenerated from the viral onslaught over the years. I am still extremely
cautious about drinking and only permit myself the occasional indulgence. I
know that my big shot hepatologist in New York drinks wine now after his own
successful tx for HCV. He does use the word "cured." Especially after five
years of negative PCRs.

It is now generally thought that if the virus returns, it's because of
reinfection and not because of any lingering particles hiding out somewhere
in the body.

I am happy to report that continuing visits to the pain specialist have made
life pretty good again. I'm glad that the French policy is that no one
should have to live in pain. I take Neurontin and Tramadol every day.
Further neurological tests at some point will determine the progress of
neural regeneration. Maybe I will get off the Neurontin at some point, but
right now, if I happen to miss a dose, my legs and feet start communicating
their displeasure!

Bisous,
Lana

Hey, that's great news! Congratulations. Not to revive our old
discussion, but a recent article on alcohol consumption and liver
disease indicated that very low levels of alcohol consumption actually
might decrease overall mortality. So another post-birthday gift - looks
like you were right after all. :-)
