I had stopped tx because of the diagnosis of drug induced reaction but
I've been talking to the GI department and we are considering resuming
tx. I've missed one shot (2 after today) and and almost 2 weeks
doses of ribavirin. The dermatologist said that I may be able to
continue with prednisone if that's not contraindicated. Also, new
developement. I took some ibuprofen last night and within an hour or
so began itching. I haven't had itching for over a week. Then this
morning my face had swelled up although not as bad as last time. I
had also had ibuprofen when the initial itching problem kicked off. I
don't take it often. Anyways, I called GI department to let them know
of the new developments and they seem pretty interested. So, I don't
know. We'll see. In the mean time I've got this ugly swollen face
again mostly around the eyes. Maybe some sunglasses will help mask
that. Sigh.

oh no, your saying the ibuprofen might have been responsible?? That's a new
one for me. I hope you get back on track.
Maybe a PCR when/if you start treatment again to see what's up
there????.....

Yeah, it's possible. You know tx was going so smoothly for me before
the rash. Just mild muscle aches and tiredness and maybe a little
emotional thing. No nausea, headaches, or anything else. Shots were
never a factor and seemed irrelevant. I battled with a nasty rash for
about a month that had its ups and downs. Some days I had it under
controll. Finally woke up with a swollen face and got called in to
check it out. Found my lymph nodes swollen and they said the rash was
much worse than they've seen. They say I need to be admitted to the
hospital because they don't know what to make of things. The docs in
the hospital immediately take me off the meds. Two days later the
dermatologist says my rash is consistent with a drug induced reaction.
No one knows which drug caused it. My skin is still healing from that
last ordeal. Still talking things over with the GI doctors to decide
whether I'm done. They said that ibuprofen can be associated with
rashes and reactions. On my bottle it says Allergy alert: Ibuprofen
may cause a severe allergic reaction which may incluse: *hives *facial
swelling *asthma *shock. That one about the facial swelling is what
really makes me think. I think you're right about the PCR though.

Jeez Don, I don't know for sure, But it sounds to me like getting back
on TX time, and throwing away the ibuprofen time.

Thanks Michael. One part of me feels the same. The other wants more
info. One thing that is for sure is no more ibuprofen for me.

My mother had severe bouts of nausea and fatigue for about four years,
ending 5 years ago. They tried everything, taking her off of her
different meds, CAT scans, GI probes, nothing showed up.
Then one day she ran out of the potassium supplement she'd been taking
since a bout of low potassium caused her to go into atrial fib. She
didn't get to the store to get more and after a week she noticed she
wasn't having any of the nausea and fatigue. Had another good week,
then tried with the potassium again and got sick again.
Everything looks obvious in hindsight, I guess.
I don't know anyone who's had good things to say about prednisone,
especially the people on it long term. Hopefully the simplest change -
avoid ibuprofen - will do the trick.

Aw jeez, care to elaborate? I'm on 40mg per day of prednisone now
trying to clear up a skin problem. I fear corticosteroids. Even the
topical ointments.
