Michael L. Arends - 28 Oct 2004 01:45 GMT Got back from my Doctors office a short time ago, a quick checkin type of thing. The ARNP running the treatment for my doctor went over the blood work for the past 2 weeks (2 different draws), and said everything looked good.
HOWEVER, she said my liver #'s continued to go up. She says it is STILL in what is considered the High Normal range, and at this point it's not a concern.
So I asked her what might be making the numbers go up, and she said it could be my liver working extra hard or something, and a couple of other things.. I can't remember right now.
NOW, I couldn't ask her this, but would anyone here know anything, or have an educated opinion on whether taking 6-8 Tokes of green daily would make my liver #'s go up?
I Mean, while it IS helping the sides, if it is going to be making my Liver #'s go up instead of get better, then I should stop shouldn't I?
I mean I can't ask my ARNP about this, as I promised I would not use any " Illicit drugs " during TX, and had to sign a statement that actually had a paragraph in it, that stated I will not use Illicit drugs during TX under penalty of possibly having TX stopped.
ANYONE?
Michael
Red Dwarf - 28 Oct 2004 06:02 GMT Michael, I do not know if this helps, but my provider told us pretty much the same thing, she did make an exception though for weed. It would NOT disqualify me from TX. Anything else would though. In Hawaii there an epidemic of speed called ice. It is very destructive to families, and responsible for a lot of property crimes, i.e. auto theft, etc. This is especially what they are looking for when urine screening, that and alcohol. Incidentally, my LFT's were never elevated, even when I indulged. John

I have consumed more than that per day, on average, and it hasn't had that effect. My doctor didn't think there was any issue with it - just the opposite, in fact - and gave me a prescription for Marinol in case I couldn't find the real stuff. Maybe you can complain about the nausea to your doc and get a script for it, so you have a reason for it to be in your bloodstream.
I remember at least one other person since I've been here saying that their liver #'s varied during tx.
Take care Gordo

Thanks Gordo, I had thought of that actually, But now that you agree I think I'll definitely ask. Can't hurt to ask any way.

I want this sh.t to work for me pretty bad, and don't want to jepordize my chances, so If I'm causing myself harm, by smoking a little bud. I guess I'll have to stop.

Hi Mike,
Sorry I can't help you with any studies on the subject, but my personal experience tells me that smoking weed is pretty easy on your liver. The medical profession here in Canada seems to agree, because hepatitis c is one of the diseases that qualifies for "medical marijuana" from the government. I toked, daily, throughout treatment, and it was successful.
All the best,

[quoted text clipped - 7 lines] > >Michael Michael, I don't think the mota would have much to do with it at all and that you shouldn't kill something you enjoy and find beneficial getting through the long ordeal of tx. ALT and AST fluctuate during tx and even not during tx because there are many factors that can affect them. Exercise being one. Many prescription drugs and over the counter can alter them. I found a web page once about all the stuff that messed with the LFTs and was surprised. Keep the liver healthy and they will follow. I believe during TX the doc monitors the LFTs to watch for a dangerous spike indicating a possible autoimmune attack like autoimmune hepatitis which can quickly turn a tx session to hell because you wind up destroying something you were looking to protect. Small fluctuations should generally be ignored. As has been said time and again the drop you're shooting for is in the VL.
Hey they didn't have a clause about checking a urine sample without asking you did they? I wouldn't show up at your monthly sessions toasted as it's pretty easy to spot. But most of all, don't toke up right in front of the ARNPs glass door before going in or in their bathroom while you take a whiz. I know because after the second time I got caught, it took some fast talking to keep from getting booted out of the program. And if you need a liver later on they may scratch you off the list and that would be a bummer. Stay high, man.

Gooth - 29 Oct 2004 13:30 GMT I haven't looked in this group for a long time, since a sequence of 3 all-clears after 48 weeks for my Genotype 1a. During the treatment the green was my best friend and my practicioner was very interested in how I got on with it. I found it papered over the cracks of my fragile sanity and brought comfort from the physical sides.
Never was it suggested that green was bad and whilst it couldn't be condoned I think the boss was quite pleased with the way it all went.
Team Pothead for teh win!!

Waiting 6 1/2 was hell but at least I wasn't sick most of the time.
