Well, Typhoon Chaba (or some darn name like that) hit
us Sunday night.  I still wasn't feeling good from Friday
nights shot.  The landlord did not block up my windows.
They took care of their house, but left me to fend on my own.  I have three
sliding glass doors and was scared half to death.  Rattled like they were
going to break at any time.  My house flooded.  Wind blows so hard that it
blows rain in around the edges of any windows. The electricity went out
about 6 p.m. I think.  Just in time for it to get dark.   On Monday I was
scooping out water.  No carpets at least.  I finally left for a hotel,
because I was actually still sick and knew that I couldn't get any rest here
with wet floors, no electricity and no water. I got the rest of the water
out of here Tuesday.  It is Wednesday now.   I've just spend the last two
nights at hotels.  My dog is depressed I think.  She hates getting her feet
wet.  The electricity is back on, cable is on, but darn, no water and the
house stinks from the bad typhoon water.  Wonder if this is water that
actually comes off the ocean.  I imagine must be, so smells unlike rain
water.

Am looking for another house to rent.  So mad at the landlord I could spit
nails.  I should be straightened out enough here by Friday so I can take the
next #$@!#$ shot.
Tin house next to me lost a side wall.  One of my ladies at work lost the
roof to part of her house.  A lot of folkes lost their homes.    This has
been the pitts.  I think it is the worst typhoon to hit here in a long time.
Lots of folkes homeless and still in shelters.   Can't discharge some
patients home because they still don't have electricity.  If they are on
breathing machines, they can't go home without electricity!

Can't stand the smell.  I found some folkes to help mop up and they came by
tonight, but couldn't do anything without water.  Maybe I'll go back to a
hotel tonight.  At least I can get a hot shower at a hotel.  I took my
medicine in to pharmacy again to be refrigerated for me.

I couldn't get on line to see what was going on with
everybody or to bitch until now.  Hope everyone else is fine and dry.
Guess this could have been much worse.

Thats one heck of a lot of stuff to deal with while on treatment. I don't know
how you do it, I honestly don't! But I commend you for your strength and
courage Susie! At least there are only 3 to go.

Where are you? (geographically)

Kim

I'm in Saipan, which is one of the islands of the U.S. Commonwealth,
Northern Mariana Islands.
Hmmmm.  There is no strength to this.  You go thru
something like this because there is no choice....there is no going around
it.  Some problems you just can't go around.
If I could have put this typhoon off until after treatment, I would have.
Oh, and to top it off, I took myself out to dinner tonight because the
electricity has been off and figured everything was spoiled.  When I came
home, couldn't get the door unlocked.  I don't know how the weather affected
the lock, but I sure as heck was locked out.  Had to call a friend to come
climb over my fence, sit on his butt in water and reach thru my dog door to
unlock my back door.  I'm in, but the key still won't unlock the front door.
Gotta call a locksmith tomorrow and change the lock I guess.  Some weeks, it
just doesn't pay to get up.
Thanks,
Susie

Hey Susie,

I think we all feel that way sometimes, but after reading your troubles, I
can't really complain at all. Saipan, now that I'v looked it up looks stunning.
Never even heard of it. When you first mentioned it, I thought you were
somewhere near Japan. But I looked at some nice pics on the web, and outside
the crazy tropical weather, it looks lush and beautiful.

I hope all works out for you.

Just knowing you got through this part is inspiring to many, I'm sure!

Take Care,

Kim

Thanks Kim,
It is Saturday morning here.  Still recovering from last nights shot.  A
little rain.  Hoping the weather stays mild
right now.  I don't know the status of the new storm developing yet.  You
are right, it is real lush and green here.
Having lived in Northern Texas for several years, the plant life here never
fails to amaze me.

This island was captured from the Japanese by the Americans in WWII.   There
was very fierce fighting here.  Thousands of Americans and Japanese died
here.  When the Americans got here, they found the local Chamorro islanders
rounded up in caves by the Japanese.  They were getting ready to kill all of
them.  So, the locals are now
considered Americans and most are pretty loyal to the states.

There are several islands in this chain.  The little one next to us, Tinian,
was the site that the Enola Gay took off from with the atomic bomb to bomb
Japan and put an end to the war.  They just had the 60th year celebration of
the invasion of Saipan.  Even the captain of the Enola Gay and some of his
crew came back for it.  Some other veterans came.  It was a very heart
wrenching visit for them.  They went thru a lot here.

Darn!!!  That's got to have been some storm.  You're a real trooper,
Susie.  And to have to deal with that on tx.....WOW!
Sounds like you're dealing with it as best you can.  Don't overdo it,
stay rested and take it a day at a time.  With only 3 weeks left, the
light is at the end of the tunnel. Hang in there!!!

Boy Susie, you must be some kind of woman, to deal with all of that stuff,
and still manage to keep it together. You're stronger that I am, that's for
sure.
Goodness knows, I can hardly imagine what more life could throw at you,
whatever it is though, I feel you can handle it.Only three more shots left?
Piece of cake. No, No I really mean it. I could go for a piece of cake :-).
Must have been one hell of a scary night. Wishing you only good things. Hang
in there. Thinking of you.

It is Friday night here, the 27th..  We had a meeting at work at 4:00.
Another @#$@#%#@ storm is on its way and it may go from a tropical storm to
another typhoon by Saturday night or Sunday.  I can't believe this is
happening.  I just got folkes to help me mop the whole house last night.
Water was finally turned back on......    and here we may be having another
identical week to last week.  Between hotel rooms, cleaning supplies and
labor, I've spent a small fortune this week.

We still have patients stuck in the hospital because some breathers still
don't have electricity in their homes for their breathing machines.  We also
have a bunch o folkes still staying in shelters, which are located in the
schools.  The schools want the folkes relocated so they can open up school
again.  .  One of our employees in my department hasn't had electricity all
week.

Well, I'm taking shot 22 tonight.  You would think that the weather could
wait for me to be finished with these shots and get moved to a safer house.
Guess that is rather narrow though.  I could have been without electricity
all week, or I could have been living in one of those shelters.

Hope everyone else is safe and dry, and having minimal sides.

Susie

I'm rooting for you Suzie. It's a damn shame that the weather is not
cooperating with your med schedule. But, just think of the stories this will
add to your repertoire! I think it is from dealing with these problems and
other issues that give us character.

What a way to top it all off. The Island will bounce back and so will you.
Do us a favor Susie when you go negative for Hep C and the next Typhoon hits
dont do any Fred Astair numbers like "Singing in the Rain" ect. They may
lock you up! buster
