Doc's last day

Susie Quill - 28 Jul 2004 09:11 GMT My doctors last day of work was today. He will be around tomorrow morning for a little while since he is on call tonight, and then he's gone.
I have 7 more weeks to go. I guess since he got me this far, I can go the rest of the way whether anybody else at the hospital pays any attention to me or not. He's going to check my lab work one last time. Got a big hug. He is a young internal med. doc. We don't have a gastro doc. on island. I'm a little bummed. Had thought he would be here until the middle of August at least. It isn't that he did that much, but his verbal support, patience and gentle good nature was tremendous support. He did check my labs regularly and I could catch him in the hall at any time for a question. In fact, I only had a couple office visits with him before treatment started. The rest of it has been catching him in the hallway!
I'm so worn out now that I'm missing Mondays and Tuesday at work, and struggling thru the rest of the week. Only 7 more weeks. That isn't so bad....... Almost their. Hope everyone is doing well. SusieQ

Susie Quill - 29 Jul 2004 10:31 GMT LOL Good for you. I took a vacation day today. Had to get my passport submitted for re-newal. Found out it expired and I can't get off this rock without it! It was great having a day off where I felt half way decent. .Enjoy your fishing. Susie

You're right. You can do it with or without him. I know how you feel. I had just found a great primary doc (the woman who diagnosed me with Hep-C in only two visits) and then she went off on maternity leave for three years. I'm bereft.
But seven weeks is doable. Keep killing those bugs, SQ.

Consider yourself lucky that you had such a good doc through so much of your treatment. From here on in, just make sure that he's set up blood test requisitions and prescriptions for you. Which island are you on? Take care,

He said that his orders should be sufficient for me to keep getting my lab work done. I have another general practitioner here that can probably keep me in med. Most have re-newals. The only one that needs a prescription each time is Endocet. Pain med and found it let me sleep too. Thanks, Susie

I had been taking percocet. My GP doc has started prescribing Straight oxycodone now, because it is less the tylenol. It helps you sleep real good too.
My GP is a real sweetie, and the doc that originally diagnosed me. She will be leaving on sabbatical, as all the doctors in their office (Snohomish family medical center, Snohomish Washington/Part of the Providence Hospital family) whome I can't say enough good things about, have all made a promise to go to third world countries for a year at a time, She leaves for Irag next year,WAY before I'll be done with treatment. Although I will NOT be seeing HER for treatment (I don't THINK? will I?), I HAD planned on going to see her and celibrate when I have my SVR (YES, I WILL do it).

Remember, your doing the hard part not the doctor. I'm not trying to belittle your doctor in any way, a good doctor is hard to find and a big loss when they leave. Good luck.

He had told me a couple weeks ago that I had "hardheaded" my way thru 2/3 of the way thru treatment. I think that is true of the majority of the people here. Thanks for the support. Susie
Jim - 30 Jul 2004 02:31 GMT Just seven more weeks!?!?! Gosh, the time has gone by! It just seems to me like yesterday you were right in the beginning of it! Hang tough! You have come so far in this marathon and the finish line is soooo close! Can you see it? :-)
