My wife, who is a Registered Nurse with a long track record, looked at
me the other day and said, "My gawd . . . you've got an electrolyte
imbalance."
The side-effects I've experienced with some six months of
Interferon/Ribavirin treatment are simply typical. In fact, judging
from research, your reports, and my limited contact with others
locally, I've had a fairly easy go of it.
Most days I have a significant "sinking spell" in mid-afternoon.
Usually in the early evening I have very noticable muscle pain
sometimes requiring hydrocodone. I suffer on-again off-again
sleeplessness. And, according to Wife Nurse (as it is hard to judge
these things oneself), I also sometimes get irritable. She also as
well says I infrequently get "more than a little bit crazy," but that
may be more of a relationship thing.
Anyway, she had this little AH-HA moment regarding electrolytes. I
ran down to the store and grabbed a huge bottle of Gatorade and
started slugging it down. Everyday I drink as much of it as seems
reasonable.
Voila! The side-effects are ameliorated. There is significant
improvement. I am noticably less "irritable." There is less fatigue.
The muscle aches come on less frequently. I think I'm sleeping a lot
better, which is a real benefit. Try it.

Hank, you don't have shares in Gatoraide do you?
Just kidding...
Not on any treatment at the moment but suffer greatly from what you listed.
What the hey, I'll give it a whirl.
Any particular flavour?
;)

We crash in the afternoon. Ain't that the truth. I keep thinking I
feel really good in the morning, and by afternoon I'm thinking I feel
awful. Will try Gatorade.

I found that green tea gave me a lift when I needed to keep going. Also, and
only if you don't have any problems with iron levels, spirulina is a
wonderful, natural energy-booster. But yeah, I too remember the afternoons
feeling like the end of the day. Some days though, it was a relief to crawl
back into bed, smoke a joint and have a nap for a couple of hours.

Have you ever considered that you may have mis=DX'd yourself and self
herbalated?
If the mans electrolytes are out of balance the best course is to drink
a drink like gatorade or pedialyte.
Sweating and not drinking enough water and being active is a cause of
electrolyte balance.
Personally I like Good Earth Green Tea blend which has lemon grass in it
and doesn't need sweeteners. Tastes good iced too!! ( I rarely sweeten
anything and haven't for years).

No. I had anemia, caused by tx, and prior to that I suffered fatigue as a
symptom of hep c. Green tea and spirulina got me through days that I could
not have otherwise got through.

I bought a Gatorade and read the label. Corn syrup. Ugh. I didn't
drink it.

Is there a good alterative to Gatorade that doesn't contain corn syrup?
