Turn off the screensaver when defragging.

In Safe Mode, one does not have to "turn things off" in order to *safely*
scan disk and defrag.

Cody you are an idiot to revert to safe mode for a host of reasons.

There are some good reasons to use it, defrag is not one of them.

I've seen some of your "help". *snicker*

They discussed this problem at length in alt.windows-me many times, and all the
experts said *not* to use "safe mode" for defrag, but Cody is a *security
expert* yaknow. Chooses an OS for its fax program and recommends the use of
Internet Explorer.

That's not the reason I choose an OS but it is a factor. I am going to XP

Cody, if you've ever worked with NT Server I think you'll like XP Pro.  It
has a lot of the good features and stability that NT Server had to offer.

If something is working, it doesn't need fixed.
I learned long ago that trying to keep up with the Smiths was a futile
endeavor and only leads to more and more piles of discarded stuff just
to play the smith/ones game.
Landfills are filled with stuff that has been accumulated because people
have outgrown their residences and so it must be tossed out or given to
GoodWill etc.  Ergo, if it works, don't fix it.

The advice I gave her was not OS dependent and I can't be expected to
remember what OS people are using. Now, had she said, "I have a problem with
Windows Me" and I gave her advice pertinent to W2K, you might have a point.
She didn't, however, and all you've accomplished is revealing how you wallow

Buddhism has been a religion for a thousand years longer than Christianity.
If you check out early Buddhism, you will see where Jesus got his ideas.

You would have educate yourself to do that. Try starting with Google.

You're an idiot, Jesus was a Jew. He was brought up as one. Jesus got his
ideas from his Father.

Jesus travelled down the silk route when he was 16 and returned when he was
30. What he preached was very similar to Hinayana Buddhism, not Judaism.
Sorry, chum, but the "Father" or "God" doesn't exist so it is impossible for
Jesus to have gotten any ideas from that. Unlike Christianity, Buddhism
evolved from the Buddha in the sky watching over you to see if you obey the
commandments (250 for men and 500 for women) and go to Hell or Heaven after
you die to YOU are the Buddha and both Hell and Heaven can be found right
here on earth.

Another striking difference is how Christianity has a long history of
bloodshed with many people going to war in the name of your non existent
"God". Buddhism has no such violent history.

Some like to give that impression, but he was of the royal house of David, and
when he died they cast lots for his coat which "had no seam", and his body was
claimed by Joseph of Aramathea. i.e. A man who had some political and financial
"clout" in a Roman occupied country.

And nobody knows where he was between the ages of 12 and 30, except for John
Prine and Cody. I think John Prine's version is better than Cody's.

LOL!

I actually don't remember anything being made of the "missing years". In
fact I don't know if there were any. It never mattered. He was who He said
he was.

But there sure is a lot of convoluted ideas about Him in spite of
historical evidence.

Why would I use intelligence to a lAAme reply like yours? It is obvious

You are always quoting that part, but you have to see things in context. God
exists outside of *our* timeframe. He knew Abram, as he was named at the time,
would do as he was requested to do, and so the whole thing was a learning
exercise for Abram. The same goes for your "What was God doing before he
created the universe?" sh.t. Time is a function, or dimension, of *our*
universe, a place where *we* can only see in three dimensions, and are aware of
time as being at a tangent to it, like a straight edge touching the surface of
a ball. Current string theory physicists claim that there have to be at least
11 dimensions for the universe to function as it does, but all you ever do is
quote Buddhist bullshit to propogate your arguments, and your Buddhist
propaganda misses the entire point of what Buddha said, just as much as the
established churches miss the point of what Christ said.

I never said that Life didn't exist, Elmo. I just said there isn't anything
cranking out destinies and working in "mysterious ways". Your so called
"faith" is really a "leap of faith". My faith is based on actual proof in
this lifetime; not something I have to wait until after I die to find out.

Um, Elmo, you don't have to wait until after you die to go to heaven or
hell. I would, however, caution against reveling in temporary happiness
because as soon as whatever is temporarily making you happy is gone, so is
the happiness. True happiness comes from within, not from something without,
be it a god or the sexiest woman who has ever invited you to bed.

What destinies? Ways mysterious only to those that don't know the author of
them. You have absolutely no proof in your faith. In fact you do not even
know what faith is.

Man can work from sun up to sun down to earn great wealth, God can give it

There is a benefit package promised to believers, you have nothing.

He thinks it was random chance, just like so many think that so many things
"just happened by chance" allowing this planet to be the way it is and to
sustain life. It's the "If you have an infinite number of monkies typing at an
infinite number of typewriters then they will create the combined works of

and I'm sure Des Karts would have agreed with me.

We don't worship "The Buddha". We follow the Law, not the person. We are

You can post to whom you like, that is none of my business, but like The
Professor, and Iceman, I am not impressed with his computing advice.

I ran WinMe for a long time, because you can not only make it very stable, but
you can also make it very secure. The only problems with it are this defrag
thing, and *never* once did I defrag it in "safe mode", and problems that arise
if you have more than 500 Mb Ram, which I now have. I keep telling you that
everything you need for you to do this too is usually posted in alt.windows-me,

On the other hand he recommended Win 2000, which I now run, simply because of
the memory problem already mentioned. It required a *registry hack* to make it
do something that is so very easily done in WinMe, and which I regard as an
essential security measure. Then if you want to know what it takes to *begin*
to secure Win2000 then take a look at
http://www.uksecurityonline.com/husdg/windows2000/
but I warn you, it runs into *46* pages.

As for XP, with its built in firewall, well you may as well set a fox to guard

And many of those people recommend defragging in Safe Mode. Just for grins,
though, why do you think one shouldn't defrag in Safe Mode? How will it hurt
the computer?

It means that in Safe Mode things go slower. They also go *safer* and
defragging in Safe Mode is recommended by most experts.

It invariably is, and the Professor will be back by then to enjoy the giggle

LMAO!

If you knew anything about OS's you would have been running an NT product
years ago. So you're going to XP Pro eh? Now that it is about to be
replaced? me snickers.

haven't used, however.
