Cody - 27 Jun 2004 00:49 GMT From a NY Times article:
Schering-Plough's tactics, these people said, included paying doctors large sums to prescribe its drug for hepatitis C and to take part in company-sponsored clinical trials that were little more than thinly disguised marketing efforts that required little effort on the doctors' part. Doctors who demonstrated disloyalty by testing other company's drugs, or even talking favorably about them, risked being barred from the Schering-Plough money stream.<<

Am,gen was most helpful in giving me advice as to out to ge them to prescribe Infergen, but the Gastro refused the request and suddenly I was taken out ot tx. because of a rise in my LFT's
Remember tho', amgen success rate back then was only a couple of percentage points about Intron_A and length of treatment for everyone was 6 months. Relapsers could go into further treatment if they showed a sustained viral response, and then relapsed. I didn't even know what genotype i was, so the 6 months for a 1A wouldn't have been enuff anyway, no matter which drug I was using. hoof

Thank you for contributing this article. Sometimes I (we) forget that you actually do have hep c, and aren't here only to annoy Elmo.

I do realise that you prefer not to do interferon/riba tx but at least the choice will now be an informed one. If your liver damage is mildish, viramidine looks likely to be around in the next few years to replace ribavirin. Apparently, the sides are usually mild to non-existent with viramidine - though there would still be the possible (probable) interferon sides if you end up needing to do some tx. Best of luck. Keep us posted, won't you please?

It is meant to be the most hopeful development to reduce/eliminate the sides from the ribavirin part of the therapy. If you are able to wait a while, you would probably be doing yourself a big favour.

I have to go see the head liver doc and then be scheduled for a biopsy which probably won't happen until after the August holidays.

I experienced those delays too Cody. I was dx'd early July '03 and started tx in mid March '04. Part of the delay was normal waiting, part was the hospital making a cock-up with one of my appointments, and part was me delaying it myself while I had a holiday. The biopsy happened in mid January. If everything had gone smoothly I would have had the biopsy in early December and could have started tx by Christmas. Mind you, I badly needed that holiday before starting tx.

Disgusting, isn't it that these companies spend more money on marketing than developing new drugs.
