A few days back I complained about itchy knots where the blood work
had been done. I've come to realize it's a really weird, very itchy
rash. Like pimply and with little red things everywhere. I'm not a
rash kind of guy, so I'm supposing this is Riba rash. Whaddaya think?
And what are you supposed to do for it? Dry it with something like
Calamine Lotion? Or moisturize it? It looks like it wants the
Calamine Lotion route.
Any advice appreciated,
Keith

hey Keith,
I just had a rash like that last week when I had blood drawn to check my CRP.
For me the rash was, from all things, the tape that held the cotton over the
draw site. It was red and bumpy and by the third day it had faded out. I
never experienced a rash from the riba, though. If it does not go away or look
like it's getting better, I wouldn't hesitate to call your doctor. I'm sure
the other folks here have some better advice for you.
Hope you are doing well.

My brother, who did part of peg/riba tx (he had to stop from thyroiditis)
had some nasty rashes on his back and legs.
My self, I had just a slight rash on my lower right leg, but it slowly faded
away as treatment continued.
A thought here about rashes, try using laundry detergent with no dyes and
perfumes. And no dryer paper foofoo stuff.

Jim,
You know, that sounds right. For some reason, I think you hit it with
the idea that it's the tape that's driving the rash where they've been
doing the blood tests. I got a blood test on the other arm yesterday.
We'll see if the rash develops there.
However . . . I checked myself out last night and found single, small
burgundy pimple-like things popping up all over my body. Itchy.
Something's going on.

Hey Keith,
Why not give your doctor a call in the morning and tell him about those itchy
bumps that are starting to pop up. Better to be on the safe side. One thing
(out of many ha!) I've learned that no two people are alike when taking this
tx. Don't let the week-end sneak up on you and you'll have to wait another 2
days if it's not getting any better.

hydrocortisone cream should work well ... always check with your doctor before
using otc medications.

NOT! Nothing seems to effect the rash I have from tx and I have tried
several prescription meds as well and over the counter.
This totally sucks.

Julie,
I tried Aveeno soap and it did make it a bit better. Seems like
scratching only makes it worse. It ain't fun.
and Ken,
I'll definitely give that a try. Thanks.

Julie,
I like your sense of vengence and enthusiasm for murder.
I was brought up to be a really "nice" girl. (Devoute Catholic most of my
life.) This is the first time I've ever gotten to relish the idea of
vengence without feeling guilt.
Hugs,
Susie

I doubt it's riba rash. Normally, it takes a while for you to get it.
Your description is pretty close tho. Are you sure you don't have
poison ivy or something? Maybe it's the hebejeebies. Calamine isn't
recommended for riba rash.

I had a rash that ringed my neck, kind of from collar bone to collar
bone. I thought it looked perfect for Calamine lotion too and tried
it and it dried it out some but it did not make it go away. What made
it go away, in short order, was betamethasone ointment. It's
prescription but pretty innocuous and your doc might just call it in
for you without even seeing it. Its brand name is Lotrisone but the
generic betamethasone is pretty cheap.
Good luck.

Hmm. I'll look into that. The hydrocortisone cream made the itching
a bit better, but the rash underneath is not getting better. Thanks.
