Dwight - 28 Apr 2004 04:52 GMT I got a call from my insurance company today and they want me to set up an appointment to talk to their nurse over the phone so she can make an assessment of my case. Has anyone else had to do anything like this? Am I being paranoid, or does this sound suspicious? I've got very competent doctors and nurses that know my history and have been keeping up with my labs that I see face to face, why do I need someone on the other end of a phone trying to assess my condition? Oh well, back to playing/practicing, I've still got an hour before going to bed. So many songs and styles of playing, so little time.

I would call your doctor and ask him/her what this is all about and see if you can have this phone conversation with the nurse while you are in your doctors office with him/her present during the conversation.
The only time I had an insurance company ask me to talk to their nurse was when I was in the middle of a workman's compensation claim. This was their way of finding any reason they could to stop paying my disability payments and medical bills, which they did, based on the additional information that the nurse gave them (the bitch never even saw me in person). I have never trusted any insurance company since. I had to hire an attorney, and then wait two years (without any income or getting my medical bills paid) before for my trial to came to court. They ended up paying me what they owed, but I lost my car, had my credit trashed, and was not allowed to return to my job (NC is a right to work state). Please be safe and call your doctor before calling this nurse. Julie

Maybe tell them to contact your doctor as all the info they need will be in the notes. If you do this, insist it's not recorded (if you have that right). I have no trust of insurance companies whatsoever.

They've got YOUR best interests in mind no doubt. Right. Insurance companies make money but not paying out and I think they're looking at ways to cut back on what they are paying out and/or increase what you're paying in. Make no mistake that it's about money. Trusting insurance companies is crazier than trusting Michael Jackson to babysit for a young boy.

That's not a compliment to Jackson but my bad opinion of insurance companies. I would rather let Dracula do my blood tests than trust an insurance company.

Maybe she is. I know she doesn't like anyone finding fault with her actions, yet she finds plenty of faults in others.

Told them I was too ill to speak on the phone. Then gave that number to my BCLD and had her call them!!!

So many > songs and styles of playing, so little time. Don't let them try to give you the runaround. Some of the insurance companies will still try to avoid paying for the tx. When I first tried, my husband's company stated they would pay for the Peg-Intron, but not "by method of injection." Can we have a resounding, "Doh!" over that bit of stupidity????? I had to shell out over $400 to get myself started on tx before they finally got their heads out of their butts, but I never did get any of the money back.
Dwight - 29 Apr 2004 03:47 GMT Thanks everyone for the replys. I got another call today saying it isn't mandatory, but they think it would be beneficial to my health to have one of their nurses assess my case and make suggestions to help me. It is supposed to be one of the benefits of my health care coverage. I think I going to have to pass on their generous offer and let my doctor and nurse keep treating me. If they keep contacting me, I'll follow Shawn's advice and tell them I'm too sick to talk and then have my doctor call them. I'm also keeping a copy of the recordings for my records.
Dwight
