I picked up my new guitar today.  What a difference in sound.  It is an
Ovation "Celebrity" acoustic/electric with a natural finish top.  I've
been working on Pink Floyd's "Wishing You Were Here".  Played some
really nice guitars, but this one sounded so good with and without the
amp I had to go with it.  The first guitar I've bought since 1984, feel
like a kid at Christmas.

Congrats on your new purchase. I remember when I first was learning guitar
(mid 70's), a fellow that I ended up buying a Strat from had an Ovation.
I've always enjoyed the feel and sound of them since then. 'Wish You Were
Here' is a great one to learn and figuring out the little lead part in the
beginning is alot of fun, too.

Enjoy!

The one with the two guys shaking hands with fire coming off of them?  I
kept mine and the dark blue plastic wrap that came on the album.
Haven't looked for them lately, but I know I didn't throw them away.

New toys are always fun. I remember when my best friend was teaching herself
to play the guitar in the 7th grade. The only song she could play was "Ohio"
by CSN&Y. We sang that song over and over again. It got to be every time she
pick up her guitar we would take off running. No more "Ohio"!!!!!!
Well, when I saw her again about 5 years ago, we were helping our other best
friend get ready for her wedding when good ol' Ruth found a guitar  and
started playing "Ohio". We stopped what we were doing and had to sing along
for old times sake.
She is now an accomplished player!

In 1977-78, I was working in the oil fields in eastern New Mexico and
west Texas.  I had two roommates in a house called the "Hippie House"
(not sure why ;) ).  We used to sit around when not working listening to
music and I was teaching one of my roommates to play guitar.  It wasn't
long before he was playing better than me.  Five years later he was
playing solo gigs in the clubs on 6th Street in Austin.  The last time I
saw him, about 8 years ago, he had just finished touring Europe with his
band.

His abilities passed mine within a few months.  He is an extremely
gifted person.  He's had poems and short stories published, unbelievable
work with charcoal drawings, clay molding, and wood carvings.  The last
I heard he had given up playing the guitar and was concentrating on
vocals and song writing.  One of my favorite memories came from an
annual party called the "Ballinger Brain Bash" back in the days when we
were still young and partying all the time.  Woke up one morning and
could hear music (Jimmy Buffett "Ballad Of Spider John") coming from the
sky.  We found Spencer high up in the tree with his guitar playing and
singing.  This particular tree had underwear scattered all through the
branches, while everyone had been skinny dipping the night before
someone had collected the underwear and thrown them up in the tree.  So
here is Spencer playing his guitar up in a tree and perfectly framed in
underwear.  It was fun watching people sheepishly coming over to the
tree and collecting their clothing for most of the morning.

You'll know you're hooked on geetars when you start sleeping with them
instead of the wife.  I like cuddling with my Les Paul.  hehe

Aint nothing wrong with an Ovation, Dwight.  They are real pretty
guitars and have good sound.  I think the headstock design on those
guitars is sharp.  Enjoy!!

You mean you're supposed to go to sleep.  I've been staying awake most
of the night playing.
