Hello:
I'm a 1a, about to do shot #6 on Sunday. Just got word today that my
neutrophils dropped to 0.6 and GIPA wants me on Neupogen starting tomorrow
(24 hours before that next Pegasys shot). Questions are:
1.) Sides w/ Neupogen?
2.)Can I expect the count to stabilize soon? (next blood work will be
Wednesday)
3.)If it continues to drop - how low will they let the number go to?
4.)If it continues to drop - can they up the Neupogen dosage?
Any and all help and info on neutrophils and Neupogen is more than
appreciated. Thanks.

I had a positive response to Neupogen almost immediately. my
neutrophils stabilized after a few weeks and have been strong since
then. My WBC is better than it has been since I became sick. I have
never noticed any sides.

My specialst is pressing for me to have another crack at treatment
using pegalated.. reckons my liver is not to flash. The last time
round (a couple of years back) things were going well but my neutrophils
got very low and I wasn't doing to well with a nasty attack of Riba rash.
I'm pleased to learn that there is treatment for the neutro problem
but has anyone come up with a solution for the %@^# rash?

Roy, they took me off Riba about 5 weeks ago and I still have a terrible
rash. Your doctor may be right about doing tx again. I did tx about 4
years ago and had to stop because of my blood counts. This time they
gave me Procrit and Neupogen and my blood counts stayed good. I just
didn't respond to tx as well as expected. Now I'm taking the Pegasys
indefinitely or at least until something better comes around.

Well great, you found this place!
If you stay on the neup, your numbers will get up to where they need to be-
almost
immediately, I believe.
I haven't heard of a case where
the count continued to go down even with the neupogen- so relax.....You are
going to do
3 times a week?
Mine went down to .225 and jumped up to .900 in 4 days after two shots .
The effects only last a day or too unless you go on Neulasta (pegged
version) . SteveS is
our resident guru on that stuff, if he's around.
I didn't notice any sides.....
"Hope this helps" ahhhhhaaaa

Mike:
GIPA's got me doing one Neup shot this weekend before my Pegasys shot ...
then checking blood on Wed. ... so only the one shot between now and then.
Expensive little crap, this Neup., too. May be time to go knock off a bank
or two if I end up on 3x/week.

Try to get on Neulasta. It's the same stuff but pegylated, so it lasts for
2 weeks.
I had a positive response to it, but it does wear off in the 2 weeks.
My Insurance was billed $5604.96 negotiated down to a mere $2507.52 per shot
!
With a .6 ANC, you'll want to be careful in crowds. If you catch a slight
infection it can cause you a lot of grief.
Good thing they caught it quickly.

Answer to all three: The count will change quickly. My doc had me on
weekly tests for a while, playing around with the dose, until he got the
numbers stable. Apparently, it's easy to "overshoot" and have the count
too high, as easy as doing too little and not getting it up enough. It
may take a while to find your optimal dose as well.

The best source for info is the manufacturer's site:
http://www.neupogen.com/pi.html and
http://www.neulasta.com/patient/index.jsp
Both talk exclusively about cancer treatments, BTW, use of Neupogen with
HCV treatment is still "off label".

Dwight, Mike, Steve, Thomas - you guys are great. Helped give me confidence
(not to mention great info)going into my first Neup shot tomorrow. Couple of
other related Q's:
1.)Is it pretty much a given that I'll be on the Neup the entire rest of my
time on tx?
2.)I've been doing the Pegasys shots in the leg so far - think it might be
best to do the Neups in a different area?
3.)Think we could make a buck hawking riba Pez-despensers on eBay?
(for mikefo) - HCOP = Hanbey's Clearinghouse Of Poop .... "hope this helps -
ME!" ... ahhahahahaha
