Got news today that my viral load is 634,000 after 48 weeks of pegasus
and riba. Ended treatment Jan. 9, 04. Original viral load was
13,500,000, Type 1-a. See liver doctor on Fri 27. Don't know if I can
handle another round of treatment anytime soon. I have talked to the
doctor before about a maintinance dose but he never made any comment.
You hep veterans give me some feedback.
Thanks,
Tim

Hey Tim, sorry to hear the bad news. I'm in the same boat having started
treatment with my viral load at 7,000,000 and also being 1a. Although I was
clear from week 12 through end of treatment I subsequently relapsed.
For the last 9 months I've been trying to decide whether to do treatment
again. But it's really tough to decide to go ahead given the estimated 20%
chance of success the second time around.
If you get it figured out be sure to let us know. :-)

Man that's bad news indeed. I'm mighty sorry to hear that Tim.
I think I would have a tough time of doing another round myself.
Good luck!

Russ,
What Genotype where you. I believe you/me had the same type. Hey i'm
looking at May 1 my last day. the Parkinson's like side effects are almost
gone...I beat my 10 yr old in a foot race last week. In Nov I couldn't even run
10 feet...woobling and shaking bad. Now Im alot less shaky and take pride in
the spring in my jog.

You're the second one with bad news today - I'm sorry about that. How is
your liver doing? Is it really urgent that you go through treatment
again (or on maintenance), or could you wait for a few years? There
might be new stuff out that works better for you by then.

Forgot to mention I was undetectable at week 12.

Tim, sorry to hear the news. I just got the new today myself. Only
made it to shot 25 this time. My doctor was discussing the
possibilities of doing a maintenance dosages the last time I was in
there. I go in tomorrow to find out what my options are. I'll let you
know what I find out.

Dwight; Sorry about your news also. I would appreciate you telling me
more about the maintenance dose when you find out more. My doctor didn't
have much to say when I brought it up a couple of months ago. (at that
time virus was undectable.) thanks for your response; Tim

Maintenance usually entails doing half the normal dosage of interferon
and NO ribavirin. After doing combo tx, maintenance is supposed to be a
piece of cake in comparison. The people I know who are doing it say
they can hardly tell they're on any meds. And one person I know went
'undetectable' on maintenance, figure that one out!!

sh.t, Dwight!! That sucks!! I feel bad for you. It doesn't seem fair
after working so hard to get rid of the virus that it would come back or
not go away at all. Don't give up! Elmo

Give yourself some time to recover physically and emotionally, then decide
if you want to try a maintenance dose. I'm at a point now where I'll do
just about anything to stay well, but it took me awhile to get here. First
I got depressed, then I decided to let the dragon go ahead and kill me, and
now I'm mad again. Maintenance sounds like a good idea to me, especially if
your liver is in good enough shape to wait for the next miracle drug to come
down the pike. If your BCLD isn't amenable to the suggestion, find one who
is.

I'm curious, Tim. Were you ever 'undetectable' while you were taking
the meds? Sorry to hear it didn't work for you. Take a break and enjoy
feeling better off ot tx. Personally, it would depend on the shape of
my liver whether or not I'd do maintenance doses. If your doc thinks it
would be wise to do that, I wouldn't balk at it. Good luck, Tim.

Me, I will never do it again, I lost almost everything in a year and
half. Still have my family and house, but no brain or money and still
feel like crap and still have a viral load. They have tried every drug
known to man to try and get my anger and paranoia under control, they
get close but it makes me a gumby. I spend the day saying" you don't
have to kill them, they have a right to stand in the checkout line
too". I'm tired of doctors, pills and injections.
