I am a glaucoma patient and recently my 7 year old son has started
seeing my opthalmologist because my doctor said IOP of my son is on the
high side (that was 21, I believe, same as mine). I know that being my
son make him more of a glaucoma suspect, but how big a chance for him
to have glaucoma at such a young age ? Is there any study on this ?
According to my doc his nerve looks healthy. I am very myopic but my
son is not.

Just want to see if there is any scientific studies that can tell me
how many percent of children born to glaucomatous parents would
eventually develop the disease.

Thanks.

There probably are studies, and someone here will point you to them.
I'd say he is definitely at risk.  Did they measure his corneal
thickness (pachymetry)? If not, why not?  I mean it will define how
accurate the tonometry readings are, and I don't care what the
professions say, pressures are a factor in glaucoma.  It's good that his
optic nerves are good, but that should be documented photographically,
for a pixel by pixel comparison next year. Early detection is where it's
at, and the earlier the better. And no better way than digital
photography, in his case, STEREO photography.

Thanks William. Is HRT considered stereo photography ? It is offered at
my doctor's office.

Sort of. It's tomography, but you do get a 3-d picture, but it's not
quite the same as stereo photography.

Didn't they use it?  Maybe he's too young. I can ususally get good
photos on a 7 yr old, but I'm not sure about HRT. They SHOULD be able to
do pachymetry on him, for sure...
