Betimol Question

I have been using Travatan to lower my
pressure for the past three years with few
side effects.
It's not working anymore so I
was switched to Betimol.

The 1st week of taking it I didn't have
any problems, but after the 2nd week
I am getting these systoms:

Chest feels heavy.
Throat feels tight & dry.
Can be hard to swallow.
Feels like my lungs don't fill
up with as much air as they used to.
Feel lethargic.
Get a warm sensation in my
chest, like when you breath
Vicks Vapor Rub.

I make sure to close my eyes
and plug my tear ducts after
putting in the drops to prevent the
stuff from going down my throat.

Has anyone else had these side effects
when taking Betimol?
If so did they go away or did you have
to switch to something else?

Thanks

Did your doctor discuss the possible side effects of Betimol with you?
Some of the ones you mention are side effects known to Betimol and
serious enough that you should call your doctor. He might decide to
switch you to something else. The lethargy is pretty common but I'd be
more worried about the difficulty swallowing and heaviness in your
chest.

Yes, he said they don't like to prescribe it to older people
with breathing problems, but since I am in my early 30's
and didn't have any breathing problems he felt that I wouldn't
have any problem with it.

Now he wants to switch me to Betoptic which he
says is a beta blocker like Betimol, but it shouldn't produce
the side effects that Betimol does since Betoptic doesn't
effect the heart like Betimol can, or something like that.

After a person stops taking Betimol how long does it
usually take for the side effects to go away?

I never took Betimol but I was on a different beta blocker for a short
while. I think they say it can take up to two weeks to clear your
system, but in my case it seemed like maybe just a few days. But I was
only on it for about three weeks, since it didn't lower pressure for me.

Try http://groups.google.com/

Search for:  Side Effects Take How Long To Wear Off?

You start from there.

Hope it helps.
