Well, I'm back, and seeing better, except for some fuzzy that does seem to
come and go. I have dry eyes due to Sjogren's, and am having to use a lot
of tears, but got rid of that *hunk* in the very middle anyway. Had a
*near* lens put in that eye. Now, if I could just get rid of the floaters!
When I go back Tuesday, we will schedule my right eye.
My IOP was 14 Friday morning. She did not stop my glaucoma drops, however,
I am suspending them today to see if they have any affect on the dryness.
So far, nothing noticeable.
In the mean time, I am going to put a *distant* contact in the right eye,
and hopefully, I'm going to have mono vision, left eye near, right eye far.
My mind is used to being hit with crazy stuff, so it will probably adapt.
I'm pretty good at controlling my brain. I first wore contacts back in the
dark ages (early 70's) of the hard lens, and never had a moment's trouble;
soft lens were a piece of cake, often forgetting I even had them in. I am
disabled and unable to get around, so the majority of my viewing is between
me at one end, the tv at the other, and reading material and my laptop in
be-tween. I am really hoping to be able to train my eyes and not have to
fool with glasses; want to do close up work with medium distant vision also
clear.
How do high Blood Glucose levels affect the eyes at that precise moment, if
anything noticeable? Mine have been bouncing all over the place, from a
hypo to 300+. I am Prednisone dependent, so control of my bg is very
difficult, though I work hard at it anyway. My May levels:

Good luck tomorrow Trish. Where in TN are you? I am in AR, across the
Mississippi river from Dyersburg.

: Good luck Billie --It's been a month sence mine and I will go in for
: the second one Monday 17th . So far I am real pleased with the outcome
: of the surgery -no -glaucoma meds in the surgery eye now --I really
: would like to know why no more meds for glaucoma --is cataract surgery a
: cure ? Will I eventually go back on the glaucoma meds?

Billie --Blood glucose does affect the eyes but that's--a question for
DR. Cohn . I have sjogrens also but thought I was not
supposed to use the tears in the operated eye ? I have alphgan P=2x a
day, for the operated eye - Tobradex at night, Zymar and Acular-4 x a
day. I didn't do well on the eye test the 1st day after surgery .My
pressure was 18 ! but on the first eye surgery it was 13 -so i am
puzzled about this . MY BP was Up and I suspect that this may have
sent the pressure up this time -DR. Cohn? Billie I really think the
surgery has helped the dry eyes --or maybe it's the lack of glaucoma
meds ?

Short term fluctuations in blood sugar don't have much effect on the
eye...it's long term control that is important. As for your different
pressures after surgery, it's not that important (as long as it's not
over 30). Remember that every eye is different and behaves
differently after surgery. Blood pressure seldom has an effect on eye
pressure unless the systolic BP is over 200. The blood vessels in the
neck and head undergo "autoregulation" to reduce blood flow to the
brain (and eye) in episodes of hypertension to help protect you from
having a stroke. Therefore mild hypertension will not raise your eye
pressure. As for dry eyes, cataract surgery NEVER makes that better,
only worse. There fore, it is probably the removal of glaucoma meds
that's making you eye feel better.
Take care,
Dr. Cohn
