I just had my eye checkup. I've been "borderline" glaucoma for 5 1/2
yrs. I started with Xalatan & reluctantly started Lumigan last fall. I
had the beginnings of cataracts ,probably 2 yrs ago & they hadn't
changed until this check up. I asked the doctor if Lumigan would cause
cataracts more than Xalatan & he said it was drug co. propaganda.. My
pressures are 18 & 20 but he isn't happy with these readings & wanted to
add another drop,.He asked if I have heart problems (I don't)..I can
only remember
my pressures being down to 18 once since being diagnosed.I am wearing
glasses that are 8 yrs old.I asked how everything looed behind my eyes &
he said "fine".Does it seem like a logical move to add another type drop
? And is it just propaganda that one drop is more conducive to cataracts
over another ? Lora

I'm a little confused.......are you still using Xalatan? In my experience,
Xalatan & Lumigan are in the same family of drugs but Lumigan is stronger.
So, Lumigan usually replaces the Xalatan (I think). I started on Xalatan,
too. Then my doctor added Timoptic. I have also tried Lumigan but couldn't
tolerate it. My pressures tend to be quite high. On 3 drops, the lowest I
have been is 23 BUT, I still don't show signs of visual field or optic nerve
damage. I think that the definition of "too high" a pressure depends on the
individual patient & the resulting visual field & optic nerve damage. Hope
this info helped.
