Absolutely. They say it grows back but so far no evidence. I don't
take the stuff anymore either. I have been getting out more lately
and it has been bothering me, especially since I have just finished
making a silent movie with a group of "beautiful people", I am really
not looking forward to seeing the film when we edit it. Teg also
helped me gain a lot of weight so there is some more self esteem shot.
You're not alone.

Thanks for that, I wasn't aware about the weight thing. I have a weight
problem as it is. I am losing way too much hair and I am waiting to go bald
with all this loss of hair. Oh well.
Thanks again for that info.
Beck.

Hello Beck, I just wanted to ask if it could possibly be a side effect to
something else, such as balding for example. You see although I get
many different kinds of seizures, I have been on many different types of
medication, including both tegretol regular, and tegretol retard, though
I still have very long, thick, dark hair down to my waist. I also have a
friend who takes tegretol, and she has only very mild absences, and was
just given permission to start driving lessons last year, but she too
has a full head of hair.
As for the quote by Angeleyes that tegretol may be responsible for putting
up your weight, I don't know whether it's just the way the drug is
reacting with his body, or whether he just has a weight problem like the
millions of other people around the world. You see, I'm 39 years old now,
and have been a size 12 for decades. In fact, the only time my weight went
up via my medication, was when I was in my teens and taking a very high
dose of epilim (sodium valproate). As soon as I was taken off this drug,
my weight went back to normal again, and therefore, this is why I think
this must be the drug that will put up your weight, well, it certainly put
mine up anyway.

Hi Sofia,
I hope it isn't balding, I'm only 22 and want my hair :o(
I will ask my doctor next time I see him, maybe he can tell me. Ever since I
was a very young girl I have had very very thick and long hair, It just
seems to be since I started on medications that its falling out. I am on
other medications regularly too so it may also be them. I'll check this all
out.
As for the weight issue, I have a couple of health problems that help me put
on the weight, but I am also just over-weight normally. I will ask the
doctor about this too.
Thanks for the reply though,
Beck.

Oh dear, I'm so sorry, both to Angeleyes and yourself for this awful
mistake of getting both of your sexes wrong. It's just that both of your
names didn't seem to me as typically stereotyped "girls" names.
Anyway can I apologise to you both again, and hope there was no offending
either of you. At least now though, I'll keep this in mind if writing to
you in future.

lol its ok :o)
I get that a lot online, I'm in Australia and Beck is short for Rebecca,
very common here but it seems most other countries don't use it a lot. No
offence taken :o)

Don't sweat it Sofie. I'm an "Angel" fan, "Buffy" too.
Mistaken identity isn't the point here, helping people is, and you
make a wonderful effort that I for one appreciate very much.
In case you need to know for the future, I am 38 with a lovely husband
(20 years) and two kids - girl 18 and boy 15 (they grow up so fast -
one minute you are changing their diapers, the next you are changing
the locks!!) ;-D

Oh no! When did I get a sex change?? Does my husband know?? ;-D
Seriously, I am a little of both, I have a weight problem but it
hasn't helped taking all these drugs and I was fine till I started
taking them. After I came off Depakote I lost over 60 pounds without
trying so it must have something to do with it.

Hi
I'm 39 (male) in New Zealand.
I'm on epilim and have put on a little weight (maybe 15kg) since starting on
it a few years ago. I'm also on tegretol and have been for 25 - 30 years. I
wish it *would* cause hair loss for me as I have very hairy arms, legs,
chest, back, and so far no loss of hair on my head. Lol.
I'm also on clobazam and gabapentin, but they don't seem to have any side
effects either.
Wouldn't mind coming off the epilim to help lose those extra few kilos
though. A friend of mine is also on epilim and she's gained a lot of weight
from it. I heard that it might have something to do with increasing the
desire for sweet foods, but that may or may not be the case.
Cheers
Darryl.

Hi again, I've been on Tegertol for years and haven't had any hair loss. I
tried Depakote several years ago and had weight gain . The weight went away
shortly after stopping it. One problem I've had with Tegretol is not feeling
hungry, so I miss meals (never a good thing) and get light headed by the end
of the day. My fianc?e has been a big help in getting my meals more regular.
Well, she's been a big help with many things I didn't realize where a
problem before.
