I can't remember (surprise, surprise) how much I've told you of the
battle with the DVLA I have had recently when they refused to renew my
licence because my doctor wouldn't reply to them for almost three
months, despite three reminders to fill in the forms. Anyway...

Two letters arrived from the DVLA today. One of them informed me that
they would be sending my driving licence shortly, the other one
contained my licence.

So my doctor has finally got off his butt and signed.

Although the forms contained the option of a seven year licence (rather
than 3 yearly) providing I agreed to follow all medical advice and take
any medications prescribed, *I refused* to sign that bit as I won't sign
away my medical rights.

They seem not to have noticed this and they have given me a licence
which runs until 2027! So I won't have to play spot-the-white-police-
car-on-my-tail anymore :))))

envelopes???

I don't remember having that.

The three years passed very quickly ...

YES
YES
YES
YES!

BEFORE I READ ANY FURTHER MAY I POINT OUT THAT AS A TAX PAYER I HAVE
BEEN FINED 100 POUNDS FOR NOT SENDING IN A SELF ASSESSMENT FORM FOR MY
EXTRA INCOME, AND THE INLAND REVENUE HAVE ESTIMATED AN ADDITIONAL EXTRA
TAX AS 717 POUNDS.

THIS IS, PRESUMABLY, ON TOP OF ALL THE TAX I HAVE PAID BY P.A.Y.E. IN MY
ONE AND ONLY INCOME FROM TEACHING.

DUH?  AM I SLEEPWALKING AND EARNING EXTRA MONEY MOONLIGHTING? SOMEWHERE
I MUST HAVE A BANK ACCOUNT I OPENED IN MY SLEEP!

NOW WHO'S GOT THE RIGHT TO WHINGE ABOUT HOW THEIR TAX IS SPENT?

I hope you won't pay it without a fight. You've contacted them?

light-hearted.

I'm very sorry for you, write to the tax inspector NOW. The dog can take
himself for a walk.

Cool!  I've been sick with a miserable cold so needless to say I'm not
driving for now, but I can picture you riding around with the wind blowing
through your hair.  And if you have a dog like me you'll leg the dog in the
back seat, roll down her window and she'll have her head out the window ;-)

Congratulations Malcolm! If all goes well I'll be following in your
footsteps in a couple of years... I've had no seizures since my surgery a
month ago, so I'm hopeful.
