I sort of jumped in here without introducing my self.
Not very good at this kinda stuff so I'll just do it best I can.

I have ahd epilespy since I was 9 months old. I went through several
bouts of Viral Meningitits and Viral Ensphilitis in a 3 month time
period. Which, I was lucky, only developed epil.
At the worst of the worst I was having 3-4 seizures a day, almost all
of them cp, some going to full generlized seizures. At the height of
meds I was on 800 mg of dilantin, 2800 of Tegratol, 3750 of Depakote, 3
gr of Phenobarb and .5 of ativan. I was able to get through college
after 6 yrs, 4 and a ahlf still trying to figure out how to learn. the
last 1 and a half was cake. :}}}
In 1990 I was one of the "lab rats" for the VNS. I had it done at
Temple. Would love to talk to any of the other "lab rats" if they are
around. In 1998, my doc asked why I had not had brain surgery. I told
him what my mom and I were told. That I was not a canidate unless they
did a whole lobeotomy, which just wasn't going to happen. After the
work up they got it down to the Right Hippocampus. so, since 1999 I
have been "rewired". I went from a hight of 1200 seizures a yr to 1
every 12-18 months.

Well that is aobut it.

That's an amazing and interesting story.  It's great to hear success
stories!  So what have you been doing since you graduated from college?

That's so interesting.  I worked for a county-run sheltered workshop for
adults with DD for a number of years.  Lots of those folks had epilepsy.
Back then I didn't know I had epilepsy myself.  Sometimes I'd have
seizures right in front of the case managers and they never noticed.

I'm glad you want to go in that field.  You probably can be more helpful
to the DD folks because you know what it feels like.  I sure hope you
are able to help train the staff because most of them need more training
and information than they get when it comes to epilepsy.

Barb,
Actually I do the orientation on epilepsy for all new employees. Back
in 1963 when I was diagnosed with epil, the doctors told mom to place
me in a hospital, like the one I work at now. As I would never be able
to do anything but sweep, Like I do that now, ask my wife LOL, or pump
gas but would not be able to function in the "normal" world.
Guess they were wrong. LOL

Yes it is, please don't go away. There might be others who you can
encourage.

Indeed it is.

Although it could be said that most of us who post here are successes! Not
all people who consider themselves without our perceived problems can manage
to understand newsgroups :-)

ahhh Newsgroups are the best.
I am on a lot of Genealogy NG's and just got called a troll for
something I posted LOL.
I did nothing different than anyother person would if they had the
chance. Or I think so.

Thanks for the welcome.

See ya around

Sorry, I hit send too swiftly.

I've been called a troll too (not here - yet <G>). I don't think I am and a
lot of people who know me irl have defended me but it's nothing to worry
about as long as your integrity is intact!

I've spent a lot of time with real Norwegians lately and last night we went

So far as you know, I don't think you can (erase them), unless Webtv
service does that.  If you want messages to sort by topic, under Tools? or
View? you can alter message order to sort (ascending) by Topic, or it
there's a miniature 'bar graph' icon, when you click on that under Sort by,
then anyone's replies (like this) with the same Subject Line, will appear
with the date and time (local to you), that the message came in.
My Win.Xp  has messages going back to about Sat. or Sunday.  That's
handy for me, since I might not remember what someone posted when they say,
'which website did you go to find that?'  without including what they want
from the original message.
(You can shorten messages if you open one, and click on Reply to Group,
by highlighting, with the mouse, then deleting (with the delete key) parts
you don't need.   Some people insert <snip> or <edit> but so long as the
context of what was being discussed is left, we can figure out what you're
talking about usually.)

If you see some strange messages that look like they don't belong here,
they don't.  Yesterday? there were 2-3 posts from people who were sending
Junk Mails to about 4-8 newsgroups at once.  Under the groups listed, if
there are others than alt.support.epilepsy, just leave them to expire.
Replying to them will just send your address to the other groups you don't
subscribe to, and leave your address open to junkmail from Trolls and
Spammers.   I've tried a few times to reply to someone who looks like they
needed help with Epilepsy Websites or issues and if they put the other
mass-mailed lists back on their reply, I don't reply further to them.    G./

Mine goes back to 2 February - but it's done by numbers of posts and can be
lengthened or shortened.

I *think part of it might be determined by the Internet Provider (isp).
That's why I looked up and mentioned WebTV, since I know there are others in
the U.S.? using that as access and that's what they were using too.  I
though maybe someone using that might know what WebTV has as standard
setting if there is one.
If there's an option to set how long to keep messages, e.g. 5 days to 8,
etc. on Windows XP I've never found it.  Some of the people's posts drop off
my reader within 2-3 days, others (usually trolls !)  stayed up 5-8 days or
longer when I was on Win.95.
This one of mine (Win.XP2) I looked up what I had with the newsreader
that XP assigned me to access this group.   A UK astronomy group I read,
some messages there are more than 10 days olde.  *They have most of the
trolls !! :-<   G./

My internet provider which is pbt.comm in SC saves the messages back to
11/22 as I am sitting here looking now...
I have no option as to when to delete them.

I think the ISP determines how far back messages are retained
there (and you can shorten that in the browser, I think - or
just select and delete everything before a selected time), BUT,
unbeknownst (I knew I would find a place to use that word
eventually...!;-) by most people, posts are retained for VERY
long periods in 'net archives (I think mine from 1996 are still
in Google...). Scary! ;-) (Be careful what you write...! ;-)

I had a couple of peope write me ~1997/98 who had done a Google on 'Deja Vu'
in subject line-- my address came up (since it's a side effect of
uncontrolled Right T.Lobe Aura, which we had been discussing here).
They wanted me to pick Lottery Numbers for them.... I should have taken
them up on the offer, but thought that 20% commission (for me) seemed kind
of low, since *I could pay myself 100%, if Deja Vu really worked that
way....  I didn't even reply "I Knew you were going to write... "    G./

I hope I remember this post ... but perhaps I already did ...

On second  (first?) thoughts I'll print it so that I can read it freshly
each day.

Don't know how web tv works, but with our ISP the messages will expire.
So sometimes I can read the responses to messages but not the original
message because that original message has expired.  That doesn't mean
the messages are gone forever because there are archives (like Google's
newsgroup archives) that are saved for eternity.
