I had an MRI for a broken neck once--caused by a seizure--and the MRI
was very claustrophbic. I had a CT scan last week that wasn't nearly
as bad, but produed extreme anxiety about the prospect of another
possible MRI, so extreme that I went to the emergency room and got
Xanax.
My father told me that when had an MRI, they gave him virtual reality
goggles, so he basically watched TV during thr test. The MRI's that I
have had merely give you a mirror to look at, which doesn't quite work.
During my CT scan, I asked the guy about MRI's and he said that they
have "open MRI's" now.
Has anyone heard about these? This will be a sigificant factor on
whether I pursue the surgery route/
Thank you.

Isnt there supposed to also be a model with a movable top part (going up
and down any portion of the patient) and the hole setup on this half circle
that tilts? Ive seen pictures but never live and in person.
Looks very sci-fi ish.

At the risk of sounding a tad harsh here goes. You're contemplating a
temporal lobectomy and worried about a simple MRI???
Oh come on - harden-up aye? If lying on your back in a tunnel while a
camera is taking pictures causes you 'extreme anxiety' do yourself a
favour - stick with your meds and flag the surgery. You're not cut out for
it!

No, I had MRI's before, no problem, but for some reason after a recent
seizure the thought of them is sort of freakin' me out. I broke my
neck and, because of epilepsy, had to have neck fusion surgery, and
last week had an eight hour shoulder surgery, but I have found a new
claustrophobia recently--I thinks its going away, thank god.

Ouch!
You've gone through the hoops lately huh?
Just get over all this other stuff well before going ahead with a
lobectomy aye? Your poor body has had enough right now and needs a bit of
time to recuperate.
Have your seizures always been intractable or have you had periods of
seizure control on meds?
