I am now being prescribed Gabapentin, 3600mg on top of my 400 mg
Topiramate and 400 mg of Phenytoin daily. These, of course with a baby
aspirin, multi-vitamin, and the 50 mg of sertraline, me being 57.

Is anyone on the group being prescribed the gabapentin? Having any side
effects?? Know anyone taking it?

Seems like a bunch of medicine to me!! How about any of you out there????
I am having grand mals once a month or so, and petites at least once or
twice a week...........

Not much of a memory :)
But still a smile,
thanks

I do not take Gabapentin and I guess with all these medicines you are
already taking, the following list which was setup in regards to monotherapy
only, does not really apply here as all medicines might intereact with each
other:

Although side effects from Neurontin/gabapentin are not common, they can
occur. Tell your doctor if any of these Neurontin symptoms are severe or do
not go away:
drowsiness
headache
fatigue
blurred vision
tremor
anxiety
irregular eye movements

If you experience any of the following Neurontin symptoms, call your doctor
immediately:
skin rash
itching
difficulty moving or breathing
clumsiness
fever
flu-like symptoms
irregular, pounding, or fast heartbeat
seizures

Thanks.

Hello
I am a Type 1 Diabetic who has been prescribed Gabapentin to help with my
Neuropathy. I have been told I can take 900mg 3 times a day which equates
2700mg.
As they have given me 600g tablets it easier for me to take two each time
which is then 3600mg each day. I have to say it is the best I have felt in
months from the pain of Neuropathy and it has also lifted my mood and
outlook on my condition.
The only problem is my GP is stalling on me taking this much a day, but I am
going to fight to get it as it is the best thing prescribed to me and I
suffer no side effects.
I also take Asprin(Blood Thinner),Prozac,Lisinopril and Losortan(Blood
Pressure) Artostatin(Cholesterol) Frusemide(Water Tablet) each day and it
has no problem with these either. (Boy can I rattle after this lot)
Glad to hear someone else is on that dose, hope it works for you

All the Best

Thanks Carl for the info.

I went to my appt at my GP today at the VA in GA and while there asked
him about the dosage that my neuro was prescribing.
He told me that gabapentin WILL cause me to be lightheaded as I have
been since I started on the first of the year (no complaints there).
He said the gabapentin is probably causing the numbness that I am having
in my left leg below the knee (like it is half a sleep).
He looked at my chart strangely that I was taking all 3 meds together.
Maybe it was just me :)

He shocked me by saying that gabapentin itself causes seizures!!! I was
stunned and didn't know what to say. I am just starting on the
medication and haven't built up to full dosage yet. I too am taking it 3
times a day. I don't know how my little brain will act when I get to
full dosage (in about 3 weeks or so)...
I messed up yesterday and took the afternoon dosage in the morning. I
really noticed the difference during the night. My internal organs were
telling me that I messed up. I won't do that again if I can help it.

Taking all these medications make me tired and drowsy most of the time.
And when I ain't drowsy from the meds, I am recouping from a seizure for
a couple of days :)
I need to find something to help keep me awake cause expresso coffee
just isn't working. I should have asked the dr.......
Me with no memory duh!!!!!
Again, thanks Carl, Happy New Year!!!

I'm surprised you can walk at all! Yes, it's a huge bunch of meds. That
strange look your doc had after reading your neuro's chart reminded me of
a similar look my GP had when she read the cocktail that my neuro put me
on in December '03. Several days later I regained consciousness in ICU
after a toxic reaction led to status. It's given me renewed respect for
GPs because they must deal with sort of thing and yet can't argue with the
supposed specialists nor raise fears in their patients.

I can only urge you not to ignore worsening side effects in an effort to
'comply' with your neuro. If you start having nightmares and just feel
progressively worse GO see your doc and ask for liver function bloods to
be run.

These specialists write the scripts, fill-out the charts, take note of us
'interesting' intractable cases for their double-blind studies and then
return home to their healthy lifestyles whilst we stagger around like
bloody zombies in the hope that we'll level out and this will be 'the'
cure.

Good luck and cheers

Just a thank you for the reply there Fran from New Zealand (I've always
picture'd it in my mind, small as it is, as a pretty cold place to live
:) --- I would love to visit!!!!).

Today I increase my dosage to the middle of 3 that I am increasing to.
It is hard to tell if it is helping or not. I think it is not helping my
insides as they seem to be more noticable as far as bothering me goes.
Not really a lot of pain but just something like a real mild muscle
spasm (?) or such.

And as far as the seizures go I am still having the petites often so
it's hard to say if the gabapentin is causing them or helping them. I
just know I have no energy and definitely no memory as far as short term
goes specially. I really don't understand - I can type and all, but I
can't remember cooking breakfast??? Just baffles my mind how that works!!!

Anyways I'm gonna pop my topiramate, phenytoin, sertraline, a double of
gabapentin, and I think I will splurge tonight and take a adult bayer's
aspirin instead of the child's this time, so again "thanks" for the reply...
