Stability of two new anticonvulsants in body fluids and tissues.

Goldnik A, Marszalek D, Paruszewski R, Stables JP.

Department of Drug Chemistry, Medical University of Warsaw, 1 Banacha Str.,
02-097 Warsaw, Poland.

Stability of two compounds with established anticonvulsant activity, picolinic
acid benzylamide (Pic-BZA) and nicotinic acid benzylamide (Nic-BZA), incubated
in homogenates of body organs and in body fluids was determined at different
time points. Pic-BZA was found to decompose fairly rapidly in the liver and the
kidney, while Nic-BZA demonstrated stability against enzymes present in these
organs and fluids.

New possible chelating agents of clinical interest for iron(III):
2-hydroxynicotinic acid and 3-hydroxypicolinic acid. A thermodynamic study.

Di Marco VB, Tapparo A, Bombi GG.

Universita degli Studi di Padova, Dipartimento di Chimica Inorganica
Metallorganica ed Analitica, via Marzolo 1, 35131 Padova, Italy.

The formation of complexes between iron(III) and two ligands of possible
relevance to chelation therapy, 2-hydroxynicotinic acid and 3-hydroxypicolinic
acid, in aqueous 0.6 m (Na)Cl at 25 degrees C, has been investigated by means
of potentiometric titrations and UV measurements. In both cases several
mononuclear complexes and their deprotonation products are formed.

You need to get out more.  NOW you're in Poland looking for research
linking (all?) epilepsy to iron.
Maybe Santa will bring you a Bar Magnet.  /
