I was diagnosed last week with  focal seizures. I was put on
Trileptal, and haven't had a seizure since. I live in New York, on
Long Island, and was told by my doctor that I'm not allowed to drive
until I'm seizure free for a year.

Questions:

I can still perform my job (computer programmer), but I can now longer
get to work since I can't drive. I live 60 miles from my job - car
pooling isn't an option, and neither is public transportation. With
the Internet and Fedex, I feel I can do at least 90% of my job duties
from home. Is my employer required to allow me to work from home under
the ADA?

If my employer is not required to allow me to work from home, will I
qualify for disability benefits through my employer, and/ or a leave
of absence under the FMLA (Family and Medical Leave Act)?

Thanks.

Hello John, welcome to the group.  You ask good questions.  Sorry I'm just
a volunteer so I don't know the answers that the Epilepsy Foundation would
give you, but you could give the Epilepsy Foundation of Long Island a
call, hopefully they can help.

Please share with us what you find out.
