I am not having the "grand mal" seizures (lately anyways) but still have
been having the partials and simples quite regularly. I am really
reluctant to even check into the Vagus nerve stimulator that I have
heard about only in the distance. Does anyone in the group have/or know
any one having experience with one???

TIA :)

Forget the first one Owlvee. It just gives garbage in the Mozilla you
use. :-(  The second one wants to know all about you before it will let
you read the website. :-(

http://www.epilepsy.com/epilepsy/vns.html  will give you information
with no hassle. :-)

Howdy Bob!

"epilepsy.com" WILL give you information but it isn't very specific.

You can't get specific answers to specific questions or find out about
patient issues.

AFAIK the "VNS Message Board" is just screening out spammers and people who
do not have a genuine interest in the device.

BTW: Have you attempted to access my site since I changed the character code
specifications last month?

Hi Dave

It also takes you to http://www.vnstherapy.com/aboutvnsfs.html which has
more expansive information.

I personally don't like sites that collect information about people. The
potential for abuse is even higher than the bots that harvest email
addresses from newsgroups. I'd rather have the spam. :-)

I ran a test just before sending that post and it still wasn't working.
Didn't want to say that it didn't work if you had fixed it. :-)  It
still gives a screenfull of garbage in both Mozilla and in Firefox.

Dave.     I just clicked on the Mauve link  (top here) at 220PM Eastern
time, unless you've done any fixes since Bob complained he couldn't open it.
It opened FINE on Win.XP for me.    Who's that Ugggly guy in the suit !

I wasn't "complaining". Just pointing out to Owlvee in advance that the
site wouldn't open for him in Mozilla and responding to Dave that I had
indeed tested it in Mozilla & Firefox and it still didn't work since his
change.

Sorry. WinXP is your operating system (OS)! You are opening it in MS
Internet Explorer which is one of the few that will open it.

( I was referring to owlvee? or another post where someone couldn't open
Daves' site -- it wasn't your post? that couldn't open it -- I thought you
responded when someone said They couldn't open it, and then you said you
couldn't either...  /  )

So is there a way they can use one of these (**s below)  to set up a
different route than using Mozilla? I assume those were all the Operating
systems he had enabled, in the headers of his original post?   i.e. can he
Dump Mozilla on one of the other routes to get what he wants, without Howdy
having to hire a programmer for one user?  .    G.

Below was cut and pasted out of his headers from earlier post

One person who couldn't open it was Dawn Compton and that may have
started thesee discussions. She was using WebTV at the time. There were
others including anyone who uses Mozilla or Netscape.

You're confusing operating systems with browsers. Browsers are what you
use to open & view websites!  Windows & Linux are 2 of the OS'es.
Mozilla is a browser and will run on both Windows & Linux! Internet
Explorer is a browser and only runs on Windows (98, ME, NT, 2000, XP).

Why in the world would he do a thing like that?  :-)

It's a lot more than just one!  In any case, Howdy doesn't need to hire
a programmer since he's a good one himself. I was even trying to help
but that went nowhere.

He's running Netscape 7.1 (should upgrade to 7.2) which is a browser
that is a flavor of Mozilla. NS modifies Mozilla and puts it's own brand
on it. WinNT is the operating system and it is a predecessor of XP.

Don't want to be different........

Guess I will upgrade to 7.2 tonight...

Upgrading Netscape (Mozilla) wasn't going to make you able to read that
website!  :-)  It was just a matter of running the latest version with
bugfixes etc.

But XP has this thing called MSIE (MicroSoft Internet Explorer)
available. If you don't have a desktop icon for it, then bring up
Windows Explorer if it isn't already running and you can click on
Internet Explorer (it's somewhere near the bottom of the list near
Networking & Printers etc. I'd be more explicit, but I'd rather not
reboot into Win2000 to tell you better. It's 3rd from the bottom in my
Win98 BTW). In any case, that will bring up HowdyDave's VNS webpage.

Yahoo!
Yea, I got the explorer browser, but just hate to use it (I guess it's a
grudge thing from the past- can't remember why).
I didn't understand the jargon about the Mozilla thing that ya'll were
speaking of in the earlier posts.

I do know I wanted to be like Dave and such (I'm 57 and computers were
my dream as Windows was coming out) but my mind went blank right after I
had leaned DOS, forgetting about everything except how to turn the thing
on.

Now I am lucky to be able to read english let alone anything like
programming.

Anyways, I opened explorer and was able to see Dave's site (thanks
Dave!). I'll now go back and read more.

Again thanks for the info........

Thanks Bob,

Me Too as far as just jibberish in the first site (sorry Dave :) . And I
usually don't fill out info to get info as such. I just ask you all on
this group. I am sure someone has first hand experience to relate.

And just remember, if at first you don't succeed, then skydiving isn't
for you.....

The live broadcast of a VNS implantation surgery was very interesting.  The
doctors explain things as the surgery is being done and they also answer
questions from viewers that were emailed during the surgery.  The broadcast
has been archived and will be available for one year.

http://www.or-live.com/

Select "Treating children with epileptic seizures" on the right side of the
page.

I just looked back at this (olde post).  If you're only having Auras
(simple partials)  why would you consider something as invasive as a VNS
anyway?    If your S.P.'s were from temporal lobe for example,   Lorazepam 1
mg **sublingual will put a lid on most Minor Auras.     That's a
prescription for under  $10.? for 30 tablets  -- 60-90 days depending how
often you got Really Disruptive auras, versus Cost and Invasiveness of that
type of surgery?
I can see the latter if seizures were Major and not controllable with
medications or other means,  but to seek it out when (above)   you said
you're no longer having Grand Mals?  I don't understand.     But I lie down
for blood tests.
But the VNS (from Dave's site)  is not   'a Penicillin Shot'   to have
installed.  And each 4? 5? years you have to go back to have the Batteries
changed -- I don't know how major that is, Dave's site probably lists that
??   G./

I guess "lately" to me means "I don't remember when", sorry..........

If you're taking medication,  start a pill log, and write the Time of AM
and PM doses if you take them then,  whenever you get an Aura (simple
partial)  note that in the Comments column at Right of that day's 'line' of
entries  -->  I used to use this to remember when I took pills so I didn't
take 2 doses in error or Miss a dose,   and I took the notepad to the
Neuro's so we could see how often I was or wasn't having seizures.

Last seizure I had was June 1998, but I still keep the Pill Log and use
the 7-day Pill case to make sure I follow the dosing rate prescribed.   "If
it's not broken (for me),   it doesn't need fixing then."     G./
