well darn, i spent most of friday night at the emergency room. seems
yesterday about 3:30 or so i had a complex partial seizure and went out
to my mailbox BAREFOOTED on the hot asphalt/pavement!! 100 degree
weather here and it felt like i was walking on hot coals. i was in my
seizure so have very little memory of any of it. i did fall while i was
trying to walk back up my wheelchair ramp with my walker into this empty
planter type thingy. no one was around so all i could do was scream my
lungs out help! help! help! finally a passing car stopped and the people
helped me up and into my house. my ankle was all scraped up from the
fall and the soles of my feet & toes were on fire!! went to urgent care
and waited for like 3 hours - still didn't get waited on. i pitched a
royal fit (don't know if it was a seizure or not) they were gonna call
the sheriffs but instead i ended up going to another hospital. long
story short, i have 3rd degree burns on the soles of my feet, a possible
fracture in my right foot and some blood blisters on my toes. plus i
didn't get home till waaayy after 12:30am!! i was pissed!!!!
i always wanted to know if 3rd or 1st degree burns were the worst,
however i didn't exactly want to experience them. 3rd degree are the
worst. sheesh- what a day!! it never ends!! so now both feet are al
bandaged up and hurt like heck.

this incident did spur me on to do some things though i've been putting
off for some time: i ordered a medic alert bracelet yesterday that says
i have epilepsy and i am almost sure to get this service called Life
Alert where there's a console in your house and you wear a pendant
around your neck at all times, so if you fall or whatever, all you need
to do is press the pendant for help. i'm definitely getting that. i've
had just tooo many accients and i ain't gettin' any younger!

Howdy cats!

Third degree burns?

FIND OUT IF ANY HOSPITALS AROUND YOU HAVE A BURN UNIT AND GO TALK TO
THEM!!!!!

I burned myself and went to emergency once. They sent me home but told me to
go see a specialist the next day. When he saw me he was absolutely horrified
and told me to turn around, get myself to the hospital and don't make any
stops along the way.

I ended up in hospital for about 3 weeks and had to have 5 skin grafts! (Doc
said that where ever you get a third degree burn you will probably need a
skin graft)

Howdy!

If you can't find a burn unit have your doc refer you to a plastic surgeon.

The ER people only told me to follow up with my regular doctor. Didn't
say nothing about a skin graft or anything. I always thought a skin
graft was purely for cosmetic purposes. Isn't it? I don't really care
what the bottom of my foot looks like, but i will talk to the doctor
about this when I see him. Oh btw...the sz started in the house before i
went out to check the mail because i _always_ put shoes on otherwise and
I don't remember going out the door or anything.

That's weird because I was out at the seaside (some people never grow
up) with a friend and we finished our sandcastle and went for a coffee.
It was 35 ...that's erm, about 95 Fahrenheit...and I went along the
tarmac promenade barefoot. The tarmac was soggy  - spongy is a good word
- with the heat.  When she said it'd be hot, I said "It's OK, I've
turned the pain off".

I always explain to the kids that pain is a sense and we can choose to
ignore our senses, so there was no sensory problem. But how come my feet
aren't burned ?
