turbinado - 29 Sep 2004 01:40 GMT Check the ingredients. I have found some vitamins have hydrolized vegetable protein, which is a trigger for me, as a "non-medicinal ingredients". Glutamic acid is another one. Are these multivitamins or a particular one?

Hi Lewis,
Did you speak to your pharmacist / neurologist about this? I am very interested to hear what they say about this. What medications are you taking at the moment? Maybe it is a combination of it? I am also taking multivitamins but fortunately, I do not have any problems.
Cheers and best to you, Marco
PIPER - 05 Oct 2004 01:26 GMT He didnt really say anything, just kind of did that scotish "hmmmphm" sound.
I think i need a new neuro.

Are you taking them at the same time as your meds?

Hello,
I am curious if someone knows about a complete list of AEDs in combination with certain well-known ingredients which one needs to avoid? We can then avoid them beforehand?
Cheers, Marco

Whether they Are or not might not be consistent. (e.g. Grapefruit Juice and Tegretol conflict, but aren't listed on all medications sites -- although I found that first on above site, before my Pharmacist confirmed that the printout I took in, was in fact, correct.) I looked at that site and even did a search on grapefruit juice but it came back with no matches -I guess I am doing something wrong or misunderstood your answer Would you mind telling me where you did find this list or something related?
Cheers, Marco
gaross - 04 Oct 2004 18:49 GMT > > Those sorts of things *should be listed on e.g. http://efa.org > > medications [quoted text clipped - 14 lines] > Cheers, > Marco Try do a search then on Tegretol. (I once got it from google by searching tegretol&grapefruit but it didn't find that this afternoon.) Under http://www.google.ca (one I use in Canada) or try http://www.google.com and see if that does same, type Tegretol (or try above search with the &). I got about 30 addresses that weren't my older posts, Two were under carbamazepine (tegretol) http://www.mentalhealth.com/drug/p30-t01.html#Head_5 Other was http://www.peacehealth.org/kbase/multum/d00058al.htm (I didn't go back and check those 2 after I typed them.)
Content of One I found-I'm going to stop posting that, I do this about 1-2x a week when I mention Grapefruit here--> Interactions: Se Contraindications. Plasma levels of carbamazepine increased by macrolide antibiotics, isoniazid, verapamil, danazol, fluvoxamine, grapefruit juice, azole antifungals, loratadine, ritonavir, diltiazem, fluoxetine, cimetidine. Carbamazepine

may lower plasma levels of anticonvulsants, oral contraceptive, oral anticoagulants, digoxin, cyclosporine, levothyroxine, dehydropyridine calcium channel blockers, doxycycline, TCAs, estrogens/progestrogens, corticosteroids, benzodiazepines, haloperidol, protease inhibitors for HIV treatment, olanzapine, risperidone. Plasma levels of carbamazepine may be reduced by phenytoin, Phenobarbital, rifampin, oxcarbazepine, St.John'sWort, valproic acid, phesuximide. Combined use of carbamazepine with lithium or haloperidol may increase risk of neurotoxic side effects. //

I appreciate your hard work.
However, I am just looking for a complete list of all drugs and all interactions. I know about Tegretol and Grapefruit Juice and I also know you posted this hundreds of times already. I am just curious if there is an "official list" somewhere on an official epilepsy foundation website; obviously we still just need to hunt for the list manually which may mean we are missing some important stuff here.
That is all. Personally, I do not need more information regarding Depakine Crono (Depakote ER).
Bye, Marco
gaross - 04 Oct 2004 20:51 GMT I agree. I thought that efa.org was 'it'. That's why on earlier note I said that that site's Medications Glossary contained "the reference" on that (I still think on an earlier version that was where I saw my first encounter with the Tegretol being interfered with by Grapefruit Juice). When I printed it from wherever I got it (using Win.95 on a different computer) and took it to the Pharmacy, their Healthwatch Printout (for Tegretol) that they hand out with New Prescriptions, already had the comment that both Alcohol and Grapefruit juice can interfere with the performance or absorption of Carbamazepine (Tegretol). They just hadn't thought to give it to people who were **already using Tegretol. And I left the longer post (earlier) below. I knew about it interfering w. Oral Contraception, but the St. John's Wort and other references (I don't use also), were not on some other sites I had read also. And there were *many references now with that search just on Tegretol (I expected some of mine, but these were other ones), although at the moment I didn't get the Tegretol&grapefruit to pull the sites for me that I'm pretty sure worked some weeks ago.
