I do have one health update on myself.  I seem to be having panic
attacks some.

Two weeks ago I was sent to the emergency room by my mom since both of
us thought I was having a heart attack.  I had all the symptoms of a
heart attack - pressure on chest, pain by my heart, left arm going numb,
and not being able to breath well.  After many tests, the doctors
figured I had had a major panic attack and just sent me home.  I have
had some of those symptoms before - so I think I have had several panic
attacks here lately.

I was wondering if anyone here has had this problem with their
medications.  I am on Dilantin and Keppra - could they cause someone to
have panic attacks?

Now it's the news group :)
Just speaking of heart attacks, my daughter says that she thinks I had a
mild stroke along with the last seizure I had as my speech, memory,
balance and other things that the dr's wouldn't notice but a daughter
would have changed. The dr's at the time just blew it off as part of the
seizure. Today I went to my primary care dr for the first time and he
mentioned something connecting seizures with strokes. My daughter was
smiling that she knew me well enough to know that I probably has a small
stroke along with the grand mal (see the postings ya gave me taught me
to spell the type anyways!) (I think) but not happy that the drs didn't
see it........................

Hi Dawn, I have had panic attacks in the past.  My neurologist indicated
that they could be a type of seizure.  I finally got over them after my
medication was upped to a therapeutic level.

Take care,
Julie

Hi.   Two other things that can sometimes affect some of the seizure
types, but also? Panic Attacks might include Lack of Sleep and  Stres.s.s.s
.   If you have more of those right now than e.g. mid August,  those can
also affect our tendency toward being somewhat weaker than when we're not
stressed.
I think you have Julie's First Aid for seizures links, and she just did a
post to you yesterday on this thread too, where her Idaho Information
address is usually at the end.   Some of what you describe can be under the
Auras or *Simple Partial seizure symptoms.  But I thought first that with
some people here starting New School/ Univ. Year and New People etc. in
their lives that some of what you *could be feeling are Real  but aggravated
by the excitement or stress (depends on our mood)  of  a New Year
starting....    Just another thought of where the Roots might be.   If they
persist though or become bothersome, like Julie said,  a slight adjustment
to Med. Levels might be all that's needed.
(Some types can wear off over time Or get flushed quicker by higher heart
rate etc.  Last Med. change I needed was 95/96,  but 93-5 we had to tinker
with doses several (5-7) times as we got to optimum dose.)    G./

She *appears to not have listed her www address of the Idaho site on earlier
post.... { :-<  -- so these are them.  First is the General site, the
**Second one is the First Aid chart no. 1 of 2 (only here).  Check some of
the symptoms of Simple Partial.    Usually as I got closer to control for
Complex Partials,  I had occasional Aura or S.Partial  but they got wider
apart between events, but often mine were triggered by Stress, and Crowds of
new people.
These are the sites I referred to-->
Main Site address   http://www.epilepsyidaho.org   and First Aid chart 1

Gordon,

Yeah, I do have Julie's first aid site saved in one of my favorite
folders - would have to look to see which one it is bookmarked in.  I
haven't had time to look at many sites about the panic attack - just
pulled up a few to see what other symptoms might persist.  I am not in
school - basically just sitting around a lot.  I do admit I am under a
lot of stress - though most I won't mention - and I rarely sleep over
seven hours a night.  So, you may be right on that affecting me.
Hmmm...more to think about - LOL.

Hi Dawn,
I am taking Dilantin, Keppra, Epilim and Clonazepam(Klonopin in the USA I
believe?)
Keppra could be contributing; do you have any skin rashes on your body you
cannot account for? One side effect of Keppra.I have onbly suffered the
drowsiness associated with such a massive dose of drugs; four separate
ones-:)
I have heard - not gospel? - that Keppra was developed for bi-polar
disorder, but was not successful?
Did you tell  doctors at the ED you attended of the drugs you were taking?
I can only suggest you keep a diary of these events to present to your
doctor?
Sincere regards, Rich.
