Has anyone ever heard of pain being a trigger for seizures? Ive had
seizures for 5 years, but unlike the 'usual' seizure triggers, I have
pain as a trigger. It was first thought that I had pseudoseizures, but
an EEG ruled that out. I have just never heard of anyone reacting to
pain (such as my foot hitting the pedle on a bike, or hitting my knee
under the table) as I do. I can deal with things that I am expecting,
like a shot at the doctor, but just unexpected things cause seizures.
I just wanted to know if anyone has heard of this as a trigger.

Hello Alisha, yes I had a seizure after a very painful episode. I was
seeing a pediatrist (foot doctor) because I was having problems with a
nerve in my foot. I had dropped a large heavy object on my foot at work
and was seeking treatment through workers compensation. The treatment was
not stopping the severe pain that was shooting up my foot, so the doctor
suggested a cortisone shot. He said that there was a possibility that it
could make the pain worse, but that was a small chance. The next day the
pain was much worse and as a result it triggered a tonic clonic seizure.
I have had epilepsy since I was a teenager. There are many things that
can trigger seizures, for me pain is one of those triggers.
Take care,
Julie
