Hey there

I was wondering, ive seen lots of places that sport and such, is a
good thing also for people with epilepsy. But ive just begun at the
martial arts sport called "Taekwondo" and im a little nervous if its a
good idea.. i mean if its safe.

One of the problems that i see maybe could happend, is that when im up
in the air and making a direct hit on a target or anything else where
i need to contrate hitting right and land on the ground again. That i
get a seizure, cause i have those seizure where i just go blank for
some seconds without people can come in contact with me. so im kinda
scared if it would happend in a situation like that or other.

But well cramps caused by epilepsy is dangerous to, but there
shouldent be any difrence there then if it was on a street?

Well, i just wanted to hear some people in here, for advice or if they
have tryed Taekwondo or something.

g'day stephan,
i wouldn't worry to much about it if i were you, if your going to wrap
yourself in cotton wool you'll never get to experience some of the great
things life has to offer. it's bad enough some the restrictions that are
placed on those of us with epilepsy without imposing them ourselves. (i
always wanted to fly a plane, but alas that isn't possible)
i work as an electrician and deal with live electricity almost every day of
my working life. if i kept being overly worried that i might just happen to
have seizure while at work i might as well just give up and join the dole
cue (sign up for welfare)
good luck

I wouldn't worry, it will take time to get to those fancy IMHO fairly
useless high-flying kicks and you are "in the air" for a split second.

I would worry more about what happens when you execute one of those kicks
and then practice on a heavy bag!!

Most people end up on the floor!!

Carl ;-)

Stephan I have got to agree with Pablo on this one, we have so many
restrictions placed on us the way it is so why not get out and grip life
with all you can. Have fun man enjoy the Arts, they can be fun. I used to be
in them years ago. I loved them and oh yeah I had seizures while there but
it never stopped me. I even fought in tournaments and won two, so you can do
the same. Have fun live life like you are no different than the black belt
training you, some day you will be able to kick his a.s. When that day
comes, come back here and brag about it I for one would love to hear about
it.

It's a good idea to let your instructor know about the epilepsy, just in
case.

Mkay im not sure if the first one went through.

But thanks for the respond.

As for now, ive told my instructor at the taekwondo team, about my
seizures.
And i will keep on fighting in the martial arts :)

But i was just wondered about it, because some bad things happend for
some time now, for instance.

Had to quit drinking because allmost everytime, something went wrong.
And i must say some coca-cola taste a little better then a beer,
sometimes :P

But again thx.

Stephan
