I had a strange experience the other day. I was having a conversation
with friends, and I was fully alert and answering questions - yet it
seemed to me like somebody else was answering them. Words from others
seemed to echo. I felt very detached from the surroundings, although
still in control.
I believe it may have been an aura, but not one which I have never
experienced before. Can anyone else relate to this feeling? Similar
experiences?
(Conditions were similar to those which have triggered episodes in me
before - tired, high ambient temperatures, recent alcohol consumption)

Did this include the inability to understand what people are saying...
or having trouble saying what you want to say yourself? If so then those
are seizures... partials. Someone more well versed in the terminology
than I can post the correct medical term for them.

No.

No.

I have been diagnosed with complex partials (left temporal lobe) since
1989. On rare occasions (twice since then, always with the triggers I
mentioned previously) they develop to a generalized (grand mal)
seizure. This didn't seem like previous episodes at all.

I do that but was told they were migraines.

Try searches under Simple Partial Seizures or Auras <try aura & epilepsy or
aura & seizures>. The first one (SPS) is the more medical term and used
more often, wrt. Epilepsy. I usually use second one interchangeably, but
you might pick up a bunch of 'psychic sites' that you'll have to discard
along the way, unless you can limit the search like I suggested inside the
brackets above.
I have people write me from time to time, where I've used 'Deja Vu' to
describe my type of Aura, and someone not on this group wants help with
picking Lottery Numbers.... If I could do that, would I be shovelling snow
each winter?
You could also look at Absence Seizures, but usually with an Absence
you're 'Away' but not Aware you're away, unless someone nearby notices
you're not paying attention. But you could look at that too, in case
there's some symptoms you recognize.
Usually the Aura can happen more easily during times like you describe in
your Last Paragraph. When well rested, not over-heated, or not temporarily
weakened by alcohol or 'other drugs', the risk of Auras is lower. I'm
assuming you're not already using Anti Epilepsy Medications? If you are,
many (most?) of those can be affected or compromised by Alcohol and some
other medications, not related to Anti Ep ones. G./

I get that feeling from time to time, usually when I'm overtired or stressed
in some way (i.e. more vulnerable to seizures). I consider it another of the
many manifestations of the epilepsy that I've experienced.

I've had exactly the same but you're the first other I've heard report it
:-)

I record all my incidents, they're not frequent and not associated to any
related conditions.

Is this what I am doing? a simple partial?
Mine start out like this.I can be talking to someone and all of the sudden
what everyone says is just gibberish. If i try to speak it wont come out . On
my left side I feel so strange that i cant explain it. I also get a wash
over me of i think is fear, i dont know. My neuro says that its a aura for
migraines but sometimes i dont get headaches after. I had these for about 2
yrs before i had my grand mal in may of 2003. when i asked him why my first
seizure started out the same as my *migraine* he said he didnt know. I am
thinking of getting a second opinion but i need a neuro that handles sleep
apnea also.

What happens to me - and, as I understand it, to the OP - isn't like this at
all. We are perfectly competent all through the experience.

Thats a partial. For me some times are worse than others, and/or last
longer than others. During the worst ones I usually just sit and keep
stimuli to a minimum since I cant follow it anyway.
Once in a while I get small sharp pains in different areas of my head, but
no migraines.

This can't be a part of my migraines?
