My wife has had epilepsy for 25 years but never experienced before, what
happened today.
We had a violent thunder storm this morning, and after one particularly
lightning discharge she said her head felt fuzzy, as though she was going to
have a seizure.
Anybody else have an experience like this during storms?

I've never had effect you describe Below *During a storm. Usually when the
rain starts, the feeling I describe next dissipates -->
Low Air Pressure (Barometric) front, ahead of a storm, can cause blood
vessels to swell? I can predict rain or snow storms 2-3 hours before they
arrive... usually from the Brain Fog, formerly with extreme 'inside'
headaches, that I don't get any longer.
I just get the 'Fog' now. Handy if you don't have a Weather channel
nearby! :-<
If the "Flash" was particularly bright, would that have been bright enough
to trigger any auras for her -- i.e. does she have Photosensitive type
szrs.? I've not had any of those because of the Flashes, or while the
storm is in progress. Once the storm has started, my 'fog' (above)
dissipates. G.

I'm photosensitive but I also have a strong curiosity for lightning. I love
to watch it but I know I'm taking a pretty big risk because I could either
have a seizure induced by the intense flashing lights or I could be struck
by lightning. Anyway, I would not be surprised if lightning triggered a
seizure either for myself or other photosensitive people.

Yes its a shame it affects so many people. In this case we were wondering
if it was anything to do with electrical discharge from the lightning. The
last
big storm we had blew a lot of modems in the area!!

I've never had that problem with lightning however strobe lights, bright
florescent lights usually get to me. I've had a seizure before at a
rollerskating rink with the disco lights. They always do a number on me.

Hi Jennifer
At least the media are recognising there is a problem, as our
TV stations and cinemas usually warn beforehand if the programme
contains strobe lighting, but things like flashing lights on police cars
can be a problem too.

Wow! I used to go to the roller rink frequently when I was younger. TWICE, I
"passed out" for no apparant reason. I had never had a grand mal before that
time and you just made me realize something that never occurred to me before.
One time, when I "passed out", my friends were talking about how I got up and
started skating away and then went down again. I had no recollection of any of
it. I just new that I woke to the strobelight and Gary Glitter's Rock and Roll
Pt 2.
Maybe I should pay attention to this.
