Dystonia is a neurological condition believed to be caused by a chemical
imbalance in the brain. It is one of the most common movement disorders
affecting more than 40,000 people in the UK. I googled and read that it's "a
neurological movement disorder characterized by involuntary muscle
contractions, which force certain parts of the body into abnormal, sometimes
painful, movements or postures. Dystonia can affect any part of the body
including the arms and legs, trunk, neck, eyelids, face, or vocal cords.
If dystonia causes any type of impairment, it is because muscle contractions
interfere with normal function. Features such as cognition, strength, and
the senses, including vision and hearing are normal. While dystonia is not
fatal, it is a chronic disorder and prognosis is difficult to predict."
I've never heard of the name but something about it sounds a little
familiar.
Does anyone know more about it?

It seems in those with epilepsy it is induced when one uses neuroleptic drugs
..
Neuroleptic drugs cause an accumulation of iron in the brain .. and this leads
to .. dystonia ..
<<snip>>
Prolonged neuroleptic use could lead to increased free radical formation by
increasing brain iron

Hi Mary,
A test was given to my son to see if he had any
dystonia. He was asked to grasp something. If he
would have had dystonia he would not have been able
to let go of what ever he was grasping.
Dystonia happens to people with certain kinds
of muscular dystrophy. My uncle had myotonic dystrophy
and he had problems with dystonia...
